    There is some confusion here.

A default stays on your file for a period of 6 years from the date the lender decided you had defaulted, NOT from the date you subsequently settled/satisfied the account.
YB thanks very much for that.

Am I also right in assuming that when a default is removed, getting more mainstream cards such as Egg is a lot easier.

You are correct. I cant wait for mine to come off.

This good thing is that my credit history will be prefect when they DO, as I have maintained prefect payments on the all the credit that I currently have, (except the defaults) and will continue to do so! (also 3 of my 5 account are credit card accounts!!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :p

Egg seem to be clamping down. I have a faultless credit record and had an Egg green card account for 4 years from september 2001. I recently applied for an Egg money card and was rejected.

Make sure you wait an extra month or so, so that your credit files are updated correctly. Also might be worth ordering them, just before you apply, just to check that the default it removed!

    Also EGG search EXPERIAN!!!! ;);)

    Hope this helps!!

I tried for an Egg card a while ago (February) and was rejected, I appealed and was told by Egg it was because of the default, but and it is a big but, the guy who did my appeal over the phone he being one of the underwriters actually told me that when the default was removed, providing there was nothing else on my CRA report which was of any concern then THEY WOULD give me a card.
I asked him if he would care to put that into writing, to my utter surprise he said Yes okay.
That I thought was that and I would hear no more, how wrong was I, not only did I get a letter confirming that, but also a contact number and a follow up phone call from the writer, so fingers crossed as they say.

Congratulations. I have appealed mine on the basis of a flawless payment history, including my old Egg account, the fact that in the past year I have closed accounts and reduced credit limit from £22000 to £9000 and the fact I want the Egg money card as a cashback card to replace my Morgan Stanley card. Lets hope I also get a similar result!
