Sainburys Closed My Account

I just called Sainbsurys to check if they had any balance transfer deals as i have recently cleared my outstanding balance with them. I spoke to a guy in customer services who told me he would have to put me back in the que and i should pick the option to close my account at which point i would be able to speak to someone about a BT deal.

So, i picked the close your account option and guess what i get an automated voice telling me the account is now closed. I called customer services back and they told me they couldnt do anything the account is now closed.

I cant actually believe this! What kind of customer service is that!
:mad::mad:

Has this ever happened to anyone else?

    That is unfortunate. I never thought any company would allow you to close your account through an automated system.

    On the bright side, if you reapply for the card, you'll be considered a new customer and benefit from the deals. I believe there is a "waiting" period for that though.

    gutted tbh you shud have asked to be put through to the correct dept which would be along the lines of existing customer retentions just like mobile phones

    Disgraceful. I'd definitely send a letter of complaint. Threaten to complain to the financial ombudsman too.

    I did ask for this department but unfortunatley it seems there retentions department consists of an automated service. I have never heard of anything like this, they clearly dont value existing customers!
