Hi, my partner has recently been reassessed 3 times in a matter of months on the old system so I can give you an idea of the allowances you'll be entitled to before they make an assessment.

Firstly, you don't have to provide any of your partners details and the assessment will commence from the date they contacted you.

The basic allowances you'll be entitled to are:

Personal allowance : 64.30 per week
Child allowance: 56.11 per week per child

As you have young children (like us) you should get the full allowance for the children and also your full housing cost allowance (rent or mortgage) per week.

You also get a family allowance of 17.30 per week.

So I'd work out your average weekly pay after tax, deduct those allowances and whatever is left is 'assessable income' that can be used to make a maintenance assessment. Normally you'll pay 50p for every £ which is half. That should give you a rough idea of what to expect.

I hope that helps a bit and good luck.

It is impossible to be on JSA (Conts based) for more than 6 months (after that you move to JSA (IB) which attracts a nil rate but with the possibility of deductions from benefit) so you should not have been on a £5pw assessment for longer than that, but from the figures it would appear that you have been assessed for about 60weeks, so I would suggest clarifying the dates and figures with the CSA and JCP.

Moving on I would record the date of that conversation, as it could be backdated if your ex makes a fuss. If you are on good terms then it is now possible for her to close the claim and you have a private agreement. if she is on I.S. then she would only keep the first £20 paid anyway.
    Nothing to see here

    Wiow, thanks for the replies.
Just a quick question to OP......the title of your thread says 'CSA have caught me'!

Were you running? Also, why didn't you support your child once you started working, what were the circumstances? I know there are always two sides to every story, hence my questions and concerns.

    Very curious.

No, not running atall. A simple attempt at humor is all.

I;ve always supported my child. Her mother and step dad have lifestyle issues, I wont get into them but they take up a lot of their household income which is all benifit based as neither work. I basically provide everything she needs, bar food and a roof for 4 days a week. She comes to mine every friday until sunday evening. We take her on holiday with us and so on.

@Zara33: I've asked for confimation of arrears by letter before I will pay.

@cozworth806 She stated the claim was opened whilst I was on JSa @ a rate of £5 p/w I then moved onto IB JSA which has a nil rate. The figure she gave me was £303.?? I understand I must have an outstanding balance now I know a claim was made, But I would have expected a much larger arrears amount considering the timescale involved. Should I risk getting them to look into it further?

My ex has not chased this up atall. I;ve spoken to her about it and she only has the odd "update" letter from the CSA but nothing recent. So I suspect they are just following up and old claim. I did spend quite a few years "off the radar" as such around 5 to 6 years ago.

@joanneg: thanks for that, that'll give me some idea whats going to happen.

Joanneg, do you say that the child allowance is payable for all children to include step-children in the NRP household?

We are on CS1 have 4 children in our household 2 joint children and 2 step-children ( my wife's 2 children to her 1st husband)?

Just our account breakdown is very scanty - won't go into it, but we didn't have a child allowance as CSA deny there are any children in our household - i've told them to come and inspect my laundry basket - totally stupid! But why am I not surprised

I'm not certain on this, but I believe that on CS1 only further biological children of the NRP are counted in for any allowances; unlike CS2 where step children are included for allowances.
If I'm wrong, someone will sure to be along soon to rectify!

Only advice I can give you at this moment in time (as pd001 would say;))

Get everything in writing stop with the phone calls. If you write to the CSA send it via recorded delivery.

    Totally agree.

Don't even entertain the idea of speaking to them on the phone ever again

Deal with them in writing only, and send all of your letters by recorded delivery

Hi there, your post made me laugh, we have 2 children in our house both of which are mine and my dh. During a recent claim made by dh ex, they wrote to us and they claimed that one of our children was not a relative of either of us, and the other one stayed at our house 10 nights a week! The bit that made me really laugh was the fact that i was the NRP, so between my female genes and my dh ex we had child!!!

I called them and they said it was sent in error!!

Laurel & Hardy in charge of CS1

Morecombe & Wise in charge of CS2

And the biggest clown of the lot, Tommy Cooper overseeing the whole charade.
