CSA Have caught me!!

Afternoon all.
I'm after a little advice. Nothing specific really, just a general idea on where I stand and what the procedure is now.
I received a call this morning from the CSA chasing arrears of around £300 from back in 2002.
From what I can gather, My case was opened in 2000 by the CSA for my daughter. At the time I was on JSA so I believe they deducted the required £5 a week? Anyhow apparently in 2002 the requirement changed to £0 p/w. I cannot recall ever having any bills or request for payment from the CSA, ever.
So, I have an outstanding debt of around £300. Which I have no quarms in paying, as I obviously owe it. Now they will be doing a new assessment as of today as I am now in work. The lady assured me this new assessment will be done from todays date although I have been working for the last 5 years?
My ex partner and childs mother is on Income support. Neither her nor her husband work. I have a partner and two children, My partner works 2 days a week.
I asked for a rough percentange value of the deduction they would start taking, but the lady said i was on "the old" system which is not worked in percentages. my income and outgoings would be assessed.
I have my eldest daughter (whom the CSA are interested in) most weekends friday to saturday, as well as extra days therough the holidays. I know neither her mother or step father work, So I provide most things for her.
I understand the government wants some money back from me for the benifits my ex receives. I'm just after an idea of what I'm instore for.
My basic take home pay per week is £300, although I work a lot of overtime taking my basic takehome pay to around £580.00
Thanks for reading my story :-)
TIA for any response.
Chris.

It would have been easier to calculate on CSA2, with csa 1 as I understand, they just click a number out of the air and hope the both parties agree
, more importantly, congratulations on your job . 0 -
To receive a shared care allowance on the old CS1 system, your Daughter would have to stay overnight with you for a minimum of 104 days per year.
The CSA will take into account any overtime that is showing on your 2 monthly payslips that you're required to produce in order to make an assessment.
If for any reason the overtime worked for those 2 periods is higher than usual, then either ask the CSA to take into account your last 12 monthly payslips & work out the correct average, or reduce to normal levels for the assessment period.
You should be given a 100% allowance for your mortgage/rent up to a certain percentage of your net pay. However, your ex may request a departure if she feels your current partner may be able to pay towards your mortgage/rent & this allowance may be cut to 50%.
You will receive an allowance for half of any pension payments that you are paying into.
Under the protected income section, you will also receive an allowance for your council tax payments.
What is left is then your assessment figure. How they work out what you pay after that is a mystery to most, but there are some on these boards that will be able to help you on this.Donedoingdebt Lightbulb moment January 2000. Debt at highest approx £102,000. Debt now (October 2009 - absolutely fork all!!!)
CSA case closed on 02/09/10 :beer::beer:0 -
OP, there is nothing to suggest in your post that the case was ever closed. If it was not you could be looking at substantial arrears.0

This is worrying. the lady one the phone I think said that between 2000 and 2002 I was on a type of JSA that ment I should have been paying around a fiver a week. Then in 2002 my JSA changed and my payments set to £0.00. So the arrears currently on the account is £303 something.
She also said a new assessment would be made as of today? Is this normal?
How would i know what the assessment period is? At the moment my overtime is pritty regular, but the order books suggest within the next 6 - 8 weeks there will be a serious drop in workload and as a result I will be reduced to normal hours. Obviously I would prefer my assessment to be made on my normal bare hours.
I take it by 2 monthly period of wage slips, you would be talking 8 weekly payslips?
Exactly what can my ex ask for? She has been on benifits her entire life. Her husband is abusing the system in order to stay out of work. It really annoys me, considering my daughter is 10 and at schoolfull time, me and my partner have a 3 year old and a 20 month old and I work fulltime and my partner 2 days a week. Anyhow, am I right in thinking she would not actually see the money the CSA take? Or very little of it anyhow.
thanks... :-)DUTR wrote:congratulations on your job .0 -
You have worked for the last 5 years without paying child support correct?

So a government agency is permitted to give false information over the telephone?
There does seem to be a lot of negative carma amongst people and the CSA. I understand the work they do, and believe it needs doing. There just seems to be a lot of mistakes made by the agency. Ideally Id like to minimize these mistakes with my case by knowing the procedures and knowing what they can and cannot deduct.
Yes, I have been working for the last 5 years without making any contributions. I take it they can / will backdate it regardless of what was suggested on the phone? Although she only said the assessment would be made as of my circumstances today. Does this actually mean nothing previous would be considered?
Chuffin mine field this one :doh:0 -

Just a quick question to OP......the title of your thread says 'CSA have caught me'!
Were you running? Also, why didn't you support your child once you started working, what were the circumstances? I know there are always two sides to every story, hence my questions and concerns.
Very curious.0
