Replacing Fiat Punto Engine
Comments

It doesn't sound that high to me. There is alot of work involved, so for a lay out of £675, you've not come out of it badly. Lets hope that the engine you have sourced is ok. Make sure it is a quote that the mechanic has given you and not an estimate....Hi,
I got a better deal than my mechanic on the engine, I got one for £175. Mechanic has given me a quote of £550(incl VAT) for stripping the engine and putting the new engine and replacing the oil & filters. I felt they are expensive.
Can you advise whether the price sounds reasonable to you?
ThanksGenie

where in UK are you?
£550 seems a bit high but it can depend where you are
also you may want to consider the cost of a clutch if they are swapping gearboxes0 -

just if the gearbox is getting split anyway then its worth considering changing it if its showing wear.0

I actually think that sounds a reasonable price considering the amount of work involved in swaping an engine.
Does the replacement engine have any sort of warrenty? where are you getting it from?2009 wins: Cadburys Chocolate Pack x 6, Sally Hansen Hand cream, Ipod nano! mothers day meal at Toby Carvery! :j :j :j :j0 -
I cant see why you'd spend the value of the car repairing it?
