Internet Access

Assistance need please :)

My Daughter signed up for Internet Access via Wanadoo and she did not understand the agreement.

After making two payments she stopped payments and Wanadoo closed the account the Broadband account, they are now claiming the balance of £195.93.

They will not speak to me and my Daughter (who is 19) is not expericenced in holding this level of discussion, also the 'customer services support' is poor.

They will only talk about total payment, my question is if Wanadoo have suspended service, should my Daughter pay the alleged balance. Wanadoo will not discuss part or extended payment.

I could pay, but why should I, ok it is my Daughter and it is Christmas !!!!!!!!!!!!

My Daughter has not got a copy of the contract. ???

  • I note from the Wanadoo web site you get free modem and ADSL activation, with my ISP if I cancelled before 1 year I had to pay for the modem and activation. Could this be what they are asking your daughter to pay?

    this is why a 1 year contract is not good.
    the times i have told everyone to stay clear of these.
    think there is nothing you can do if they dont want to know.
  • Don't wish to sound nasty and horrible at this time of year BUT when you sign up for Wanadoo either online or via phone they make it clear to you that it is a minimum of a 1 year contract.  Try speaking to a Supervisor and trying to negotiate an end the problem that you are having - do not speak to the idiots that answer the phone as they never help you (i know).  I suspect they have suspended the service as you have stopped the payments.
    Surely at 19 your daughter should have basic knowledge on things like this,  if not then teach her!

    The question I'm asking myself, why has she requested to cancel ?. I can only assume she is aware there are companies that charge less. That being the case and clearly it may be too late now, but it might be an idea you make a note of https://www.ispreview.co.uk/ that is exactly what it says it is, an InternetServicePreview site. There you will find all ISP's discussed in detail and rated. Equally, it might be an idea for either of you to either subscribe to or join several site such as https://www.web-user.co.uk/ which is a site that is not too technical both on their site and within the pages of their fortnightly £1.20 magazine.

    Once you have familiarised yourself with MSE site and read quite a bit, you will realise that it fairly easy to get subscriptions reduced. However, one must be at the tale end or thereabouts of any contract. Reductions are made to keep you, they know only too well that after spending X number of months subscribing, you will be aware there are great deals to be made simply by changing providers, whether it be mobile phones/internet or whatever.

    As for your 2 months at Wanadoo, I wouldn't rate them, or indeed any other 12 month contract company provider  agreeing to comply with your request to terminate.
