Eon Savings?

Hello everyone,

I would welcome your views on Eon tariffs please. I have always paid direct debit and receive a paper bill. Currently pay £69 per month but, due to a recent hottub acquisition, feel that £80 will be more realistic. I have received a bill today and signed up for online billing but would like to know what tariff i should switch to? Currently have standard but greatest saving on-line appears to suggest a tariff which includes a direct debit saving but i already pay by this method. Energy Online Saver 14 is suggested.

Can anyone advise what i should consider please? Happy to run washing machine and dishwasher at night if economy 7 type tariff is available still. Hottub plugged in 24/7.

Many thanks,

Tracey

Yes, Economy 7 is available with EOS 14. There is an additional discount for online account management.

Have you checked the prices of other suppliers?

(But if your hot tub is permanently on I suspect the extra cost of daytime rates will make E7 more expensive.)

Hi KimYeovil, thanks for the prompt response.

I did look at a comparison website which suggested EDF might be a better option but i am somewhat wary of doing this. Suggested saving was approximately £135 per year but i also read reviews of good starting offers and increased tariffs thereafter. EDF have a daily standing order of around 23p which, compared to premium unit price from EON of 22p, seems good but i am not sure how premium units are calculated. (222 of these on latest invoice)

If i were to switch i assume i will be tied in for a particular period but how do i know that the price will be competitive for that time? Is it easy to switch?

Sorry for the questions but i have always (perhaps foolishly) just stuck with what i started with.

    Hi Tracey

Sounds like you are on a standard tariff at the moment with discount for payment by Direct Debit.

Now you have registered for online billing you will be eligible for the online tariffs. These give discount for managing your account online in addition to your Direct Debit discount.

These tariffs are available for both dual fuel and electricity only.

The standard online tariffs give 2 per cent more discount than you now receive. However, as Kim says, there is currently an Extra Saver version of these tariffs available. These are the version 14 which give further discount.

The rates of extra discount for these offers vary depending on the geographical area.

You can see the discount for your area on our website. Alternatively, post the first three digits of your Post Code here and I will be happy to let you know what the discount is. :)

Although prices on the online tariffs are not fixed the discount on Extra Saver (version 14) is guaranteed until 1 September 2010.

Economy 7 electricity is available on both the standard and extra saver versions of the online tariffs.

There are no tie-ins with the standard or extra saver online products. You can change tariff or supplier at any time without paying a cancellation fee. Although we do not give discounts on final bills if you change supplier.

Have to admit I have very limited knowledge of hot tubs.

From a quick look online the amount of power seems to depend on the type of hot tub and how it is heated. Apparently, the pump and heater represent most of the power consumption and this varies depending on the size. Sorry this is a bit vague.

I would check the spec of your hot tub and see how this impacts on your current usage.

Give us a call and ask for a comparison to be done between unrestricted and economy 7 electricity. Also, pop the details on a comparison website to see how we stack up.

On standard and online tariffs the primary units represent the first 225 kWh of electricity used per quarter. Where a bill covers a longer or shorter period than a perfect quarter (91 days) the primary units are calculated on a pro rata basis.

    Hope this helps. :)

    Hi Malc,

Thank you so much for your reply; it is very much appreciated.

I also think i am on the standard tariff and the Extra Saver 14 was one of the alternatives listed. There is no mains gas in the village so i will always be electricity only.

Thanks for the offer of letting me know what the discount is likely to be - my post code is CB6 which is Cambridgeshire.

Can you please tell me if i can find the unit rates for Economy 7 units and the higher daily units on line? I am interested in comparing the options as the hot tub is on 24/7. We were advised it would cost around £1 per day in electric and i think this is accurate; we were £48 per month DD which was revised to £69 earlier in the year. I think this isn't quite enough which is why i think £80 per month is going to be about right.

Am i right in assuming i would need a different meter for Economy 7 please?

Cost comparison sites were suggesting a greater saving with EDF but i did find it difficult to compare like-for-like.

Finally, thanks very much for explaining how the primary units work and the details relating to swapping supplier.

Sorry for all the questions; if this is too much of an ask i quite understand and will ring your colleagues in Customer Services.

    Kind regards,

    Tracey

No need to apologise Tracey; that's what I am here for. Ask as many questions as you like; always delighted to try and help.
With an all electric property you will be eligible for our Electricity Online Extra Saver (version 14) tariff.

This is for paying by Direct Debit and managing your account online, both of which you already do.

You are in the Eastern region (area 10). Therefore, the total discount for this tariff in your region is 14.4 per cent. This is currently the highest discount we give in your area.

Unit rates are available online through your internet registration. Log in as usual and select Switch Now on the Your Account page. Select Apply and then the tariff. This will show the unit prices for your meter.

As you have a single rate meter only the Unrestricted prices will be shown.

To find the Economy 7 prices you will need to use the Quick Quote & Switch option on the front page of the website.

At the moment you will need to put in a Post Code E.ON does not supply in your area. Using your Post Code will default to the meter at your property and only show prices relevant to this which will not be Economy 7.

Sorry about this. :o It is a matter we are working on and improvements are in the pipeline to make this information more easily accessible.

Forum rules also prevent me posting the prices on this board. Therefore, might be an idea to give us a call on this.

You will need a different meter if you decide to switch to Economy 7. Unfortunately, there is a charge of £50 for this.

Hope this helps but if you have any other questions just give me a shout. As I said earlier, I or my colleagues are only too happy to help. :)

    Hi Malc,

Thank you once again for your detailed reply. It is very helpful and has eliminated the doubts i had about switching tariffs.

Before posting on here and receiving your help i would probably have considered switching supplier but your helpfulness means i am going to stay with EON; you are a credit to them!:T

    Kind regards,

    Tracey

    hi,

i'm currently with utility warehouse and live in the south east.

comparison sites suggest i could save just over £100 a year switching to e-on v14, yet when i compare the unit rates they are pretty much exactly the same (okay, the leccy is almost 1p a kwh cheaper, for gas it is 0.1p cheaper), and the standing charge e-on charge is more expensive. so i can't quite see where the saving would be ??

i know i am charged a membership fee, but this is approximately how much more the standing charge would be over a year. the e-on standing charge being slightly more expensive than the uw standing charge plus the membership fee.s

i currently pay approx £60 a month for gas, and £40 for electricity.

£69 per month and you think you should move to £80 per month because of the hot tub? I'm paying £98 per month and i don't own a hot tub!!! :(
  • aha, the uw rates i have read of the website do not include VAT whereas the e-on rates do.

i will have to look at this a bit more closely as obviously that makes quite a difference in itself.

Perhaps the secret is to get one! :D

We deserve a bit of luck out here in the fens; have to use LPG gas and that is really expensive, good old Calor Gas - not:mad:
