The boxing behind the toilet will have the soil stack and service pipes in.
I'd say the boxing behind the bath does nothing other than build the wall out to meet the bath.
Hi yeah i guessed the shelf was for the toilet etc which is fine, quite a handy bit really BUT the box bit i dont know why they didnt just put the bath right up to the wall that end and have space for a unit or something, we do have room for one but still seems a bit odd to me..like the sink is put on strange too not lined where i would put it, hey ho its a lovely bathroom i just like picking!!0
