Warm Space Cavity Wall Insulation

Having been messed about by Eon (well the company Eon use) to get Cavity Wall Insulation done since Jan of this year. I was browsing yesterday and came across a company called Warm Space, who called me tonight to arrange to do a survey tomorrow.
I then went on-line to do a review of the company and found 4 reviews from cowboys to so-so. (I know I should have searched for a review first), so I have phoned them back to cancel the appointment.
Has anyone had any dealings with this Swindon company, were they good or bad?

    Hi Meadows, :hello:

I stumbled across your thread, so I hope you don’t mind me posting.

I’m sorry to hear you’re having problems with the cavity wall insulation through E.ON, what area is the problem? Are you still requiring an assessment visit or has this been done?

Have you spoken to the Cavity Wall Insulation team to chase this problem up?

If you need to chase this with E.ON I can provide you with some contact details that maybe useful.

  • Always get it from your Energy Company or council. Lots of 'marketing' firms have popped up offering you all sorts of deals on this type of stuff but they have no idea what they are doing. They pass your details onto a firm such as Warm Space and the guys that do the surveys have no or very littler experiance. If you live in the BH postcode PM me and i will tell you the firm to stay well away from. Again always use you Energy Firm direct or council to get this work done, after all these firms have to go to the Energy Firms anyway to get it signed off.

The reviews I read on Warm Space said they used 'SAND' as the insulation. Another said they wouldn't do gable ends! Another said there is no need to do rooms you don't use!

So I will hang on and hope the Eon, comes through in the end. I have only been waiting 6 months (a few months to go before we think about putting the heating on).

  • Had Warm Space in today for cavity wall insulation.
I booked them directly. There's no need to go through your energy supplier. Warm Space can claim the grant discount for you.
The guys turned up early (9:15), were professional, polite, and did an excellent job.
They didn't cut corners, and even though it was chucking it down, they did a thorough job.
They cleaned up, and filled the holes so you couldn't tell.
Whatever bad press they've had, it wasn't my experience.
Just wanted to post this to let people know that there are decent companies out there, just you only tend to hear the bad stuff.
  • Warm Space insulated my cavity walls yesterday and I was very pleased with the job they did. I had downloaded a document by the BBA (British Board of Agreement) with the NHBC Standards 2007 of how to insulate cavity walls - and the team from Warm Space followed them exactly. The mortar was also mortar - not sand.
  • I have no experience of warm front or EON so can't comment on them. However, I would suggest avoiding Miller Pattison like the plague. I have attempted to get them to do our walls on three occassions. I think the price quoted was £240 for a 4 bed house, including the grant that is now apparently available to homeowners as well.

Attempt 1: I rang on the morning and was told that they would arrive in the afternoon. At 15.45 I rang again and was told that the fitter was off sick so they would have to rebook the appointment. They said that they would have rung me but did not have my number, even though I had left landline and mobile numbers on the voicemail the previous day.
Attempt 2: I was called at 11.45 on the day of the fitting to be told that the fitter was off sick. They said that they had tried to call earlier but I had not answered (even though I was in the house, within earshot of the phone all morning). I was starting to get exasperated by this stage and the bookings person was incredibly unhelpful. Their one concession was that they would book to come first thing in the morning on the next occassion.
Attempt 3: I called the day before to confirm the arrangements and went straight through to voicemail (as usual) I left my details and stated clearly that my partner would be staying in to meet the installers but that she had to go to work at lunch time so if they did not arrive early my partner would not be there for the duration of the fitting (as required by them). We heard nothing from them, and on the day of fitting my partner rang the bookings desk at 11.45 only to be told that the fitters had just finished their first job and were returning to the depot to reload the van. Which by my calculation would mean that the job would not be finished until mid/late afternoon way after my partner would have to be back at work.

My partner and I have had to take a total of 2 and a half days off work as a result of this. Needless to say we won't give Miller Pattison a fourth chance, I have no faith that they can deliver. I am looking to start the process with a new company so I would be very interested to hear how other people have got on with their contractors.
  • DO NOT USE WARM SPACE INSULATION LIMITED

A few weeks ago I had a Warm Space Insulation Limited assessor tell me that I qualify for free loft and cavity wall insulation after having drilled a few holes in my walls and check my loft. Today, after having spent the whole weekend clearing the loft, the Warm Space Insulation guys came to do the work and told me that they couldn't go ahead with the work due to the property already having cavity wall insulation which meant that loft insulation couldn't be provided either as part of the government grant. So I wasted my whole weekend clearing the loft and took a day off work for nothing. Very unprofessional and clearly don't know what they're doing.

I have posted on this during the last couple of days.

One of my grouses with this company is repairing damage they have created. Except they do not repair - these thugs use a different tactic.

With me they visited and instead of repairing they created more damage. This persisted time and time again. The message being sent was "We will keep sending round the thugs to create more damage until you realise you must stop complaining. Then we will stop, do a runner, and will leave you to employ a contractor and pay for what our thugs have done"

The other grouse with me is expecting the local police to control their workforce...plus intimidating the neighbours...plus Breach of the Peace...plus Criminal damage...plus... well it just goes on.

The latest is .. the police have said if Domestic & General return, neighbours must dial 999, the police will intervene, and if the workers do not co-operate they will be arrested.

And it does not end there. The police are so fed up with this company that they will then be going to the company offices with a view to charging the staff and Directors with Inciting a Breach Of the Peace.

I am left speech less. You could not make up a better story if you tried - but this is supposed to be a legitimate company.

Hopefully action like this will drive such scam companies out of business.
