iphone 3GS and unlocking of 3G by O2

If I purchase an iphone 3GS can I get O2 to unlock my 3G or is this wishful thinking on my part?

    was their iphone unlocked by O2 or did they get somebody else to do it. I want to get my 3G unlocked as it increases resale value and get the new 3GS.

    A friend of mine had one working on Vodaphone, it wasn't hacked but he did get get something that goes in with the sim, can't remember what its called but he got in from Flea Bay for about £5

    o2 are not allowed to unlock them

    i think it was bought as an import unlocked????it is tho on orange for sure
