selling two laptops hardly constitutes being a business, i have two spare old ones i could sell tomorrow, even if he is a business it must be early day's and he doesn't have to register immediately, he might not sell anything else, doesn't make him a scammer either.

I see where you are coming from with the sudden high end sales but i don't think that is enough evidence to publicly brand or imply someone is a scammer

Assuming the seller ID from the OP is correct (and of course it might not be) then he is selling multiple BINs of phones and such like. All of them have stock photos and cut and paste details. There is not a single piece of feedback from any electrical sales, the account was pretty much dormant until this last lot of sales.

There are no sales of laptops at all which strikes me as odd as either the seller ID is wrong or the laptops have already been removed by ebay for some reason.

Anyway, if you get one of those emails, do not click on either ebay or Paypal links within the mail, as they will be fake.

I think you mean Naive  and my point was, jumping on the guy for not registering as a business because he has listed some items for sale is a bit quick off the mark, regarding your remark about speaking to the inland revenue, i think you'll find it's only when they make sales that they will be interested, as i said, he might not sell anything. Don't forget you only have to register with the IR as self employed within 3 months of starting self employment.

He may be a scammer, but where is the proof? just a bit harsh to label him like that so publicly on a website with approx 7 million monthly viewers after all he may just be testing out a new idea to bring in some extra money and you have just labelled him a scammer, sure that'll help his sales.

And furthermore did anyone ask if he is already registered self employed? I think sometimes people forget it maters more how a person is registered in the real world than how they register on ebay, for example, if you are self employed and list a few goods on ebay without getting a business account you are doing nothing wrong, if you start making some sales ebay will place a requirement on you to register as a business but until then everything is fine, so who asked the op anything about that before implying he was a tax dodging scammer?.........

    that's right, no one.

hmmm... thats not even my seller ID i've just noticed that

Have they pulled the auctions completely as your history doesn't show any such sales even on an advanced search?

Also, and if I don't say it someone else will, I can't see that you are correctly registered as a business seller?

Hmm, even curiouser the 'seller' id hadn't sold anything since 2008 and suddenly just started selling high end electrical goods, all stock photos and no feedback left at all for any recent sales. 7-10 dispatch time (just enough time for funds to be pulled to a bank account).

If the seller ID is correct and this had been th ebuyer asking a question instead of the seller then I would assume the seller to be a scammer..but then i may have missed something of course.

No that account hasn't sold any Asus laptops. That guy isn't doing well though, according to goofbay: stevencarter21

Then in that case they are using a generic email probably to a multitude of sellers hoping to get a bite. These scammers know that most users will realise it is a scam, so they probably need to buy hundreds of items before they stand a chance of even get one person to play along.

Once you buy stock with the intention of trading you have (as you say) 3 months to notify HMRC there is no leeway. The seller also needs to register as a business with ebay though as soon as he lists his first item as a business.

You may find this thread of some interest:

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1565599

This though appears not to be the OP and is therefore, as I suggested earlier likely to be a scamming seller account. It may even be linked to the 419 scammers on the email. To me the seller account screams scammer and I would be surprised if anyone with any ebay history would think otherwise.

Cyril once again your leaping off at the deep end. I never said he was a Tax avoiding Scammer (your words) all I said was that he was trading as a business and needed to register as one with ebay. SImple as. And thats what others said to

I think you need to take time to read other peoples posts properly before you leap off at the deep end accussing them of saying things they have not. I think thats why you seem to get into so many arguments here. Whats the point in replying about what you think they said. All that does is cheapen your own arguments.

Calm down before you give yourself a heart attack. Take a deep breath now and then

I apologise if my spelling is not up to your high standards I will try and check it a bit better so as not to offend you.

We now Know it is not th OP account as suspected and probably a scammers (yes Cyril I am judging but I think its so obvious even you cant deny that, maybe i'm wrong though)

I'm just going to pop off now and write Naive 1000 times so I remember how to spell it for next time.

    Have a lovely day :D
