Redundancy Fraud

A "friend" has told me that she knows she will be made redundant when she returns to work at the end of her maternity leave. She was told on a hush hush basis.
She immediately went out and got income protection (I think that's what it's called) and she reckons that her mortgage will be paid for her by this insurance. Is this right? Or is this illegal?

Well - it ddepens on the policy... most of them won't actually cover you for several months to prevent exactly that scenario... each provider is different though.
Then there is the argument that if there are redundancies already taking place in the company she might not be covered as there were "signs" etc that she might loose her job... She needs to read the policy document VERY carefully and make sure that there isn't wriggleroom for the insurance provider...
Is it right? Debatable...DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

Be interesting to know if the policy actually asked 'Are you currently at risk of redundancy ?' and what she answered0
