The home page changing sounds a bit like a piece of malware known as SpyAxe.

As far as shutting down is concerned try putting in your original windows disk and running a repair. Check your motherboard as well looking for 'blown' capacitors ... you will recgnise these because the tops will be domed upwards instead of flat ... if you have some then it is time for a replacement motherboard (if you don't already have one buy a surge protector ... I personally would not install a computer without one, it is a false economy).

If that doesn't help I usually wouldn't waste any more time on it and just take the opportunity to reformat and rebuild it.

Its just over a year old and its switching itself off whenever it feel like it. I get 2 boxes on the screen saying something along the lines of 'no digital input' and 'power down'.

As alberfloss mention, I pretty sure that's these are from the monitor because you have lost power to your pc and therefore there is no signal getting back to the monitor. You can run as many virus/spy ware programs as you want but they won't find anything.

I would do as already mentioned you need to check all the power leads to the pc/wall/extenstion etc including the monitor to pc cable as i have seen this before.

So, wen you get these on-screen errors does your p.c switch off? Are the fans still going? Any HDD light activity?

The pc just switches off totally, no fan, no lights, nothing. Then these messages come up on the monitor. Have unplugged it from the surge protector and plugged it in elsewhere and it still dies so isnt the surge protector. Going to go out tomorrow to see if i can find a new power cable to see if its that thats going wrong.

    Hardware problem.

PSU could be overheating and thermal protection kicking in. Could just be your PSU is ill.

If your BIOS is set to auto-power down within a certain temp then this could be happening also, but I doubt it as it usualy gives you a warning (bleeps)
