Library Fines

I think library fines are more than fair.
Imagine that you've reserved a book, driven or taken the bus into town to collect it, but the previous muppet hadn't returned it on time. You could be out of pocket on time, fuel, parking etc. Maybe people should claim £££ off you because you failed to return the book on time? The man without a signature.0 -
<snip> personally don't think banks should lend people a penny more than they actually have unless pre-arranged...
Amen to that! I went over my OD limit once, to the tune of £1.14. (Stupid me forgot about a direct debit that was due to come off.) They tried to charge me around £30 for going over my limit, plus £30ish for each day I was over. I'd much rather they had just refused the direct debit, and given me the charge for that, which would have only been about £30 on its own. Seemed to me that the bank just chose the way that would make them the most money.
Anyhoo, that's nothing to do with this thread but goodness me, it feels good to let that out!
And I think the originally quoted library fine sounds fair, by the way. No idea what they're like around here as I haven't joined my local library yet, but if they're anything like that, I'd be more than happy to pay if I had a late book.0 -

I didn't think they told you that your reserved book was ready to pick up till it been returned?
I think the difference between bank charges and library charges are that libraries are funded by the tax payer not like banks. No actually banks are mostly funded by the tax payer so I say £100 standard fine for going overdrawn.0
