Windows Aero score

Just wondering if any one could help, I had a windows score of 3.4 and then the CD-ROM drive packed up, anyway got a new one from Fujitsu, and windows said it has detected new hardware - now my score has dropped to 2.7! I've followed all the suggestions from windows, changing start-up programmes etc, makes no difference, its the sub score on graphics that's dragged it down.:(
I must, I must, get my post average up to 1 a day!!

Did you get a new pc or just a new cdrom drive?
If its a new pc then maybe the graphics card or usually with pre built pcs built-in graphics chip is slower than your old one in other pc.
2.7 is very slow I have a fairer chip graphics card Nvidia 8400 and I get 5.1 in windows 7 fair enough not quite like for like0 -

the programs you've installed shouldn't change the score. It's a measure of the abilities of the computer not what's loaded onto it.
What component is responsible for this score? You can get a breakdown of the components that make up the overall score and I'm guessing you'll have one thing in there that's letting it down.
The other question I have is are you bothered by the score? It's just a number. Does the computer feel slower to you since the score changed? Is something that was previously satisfactory no longer so?If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything0 -
well CD drive shouldnt effect it at all, so either there is some issue with the way the program is shown or something else has changed perhaps it could do with updated graphics drivers although normally replacing of a cdrom drive shouldnt have an effect
Having said that the core is only a benchmark and should therefore only be used as a guide on my other pc with vista for some reason I couldnt even run the benchmark after 1st try even have updating to sp20 -

the amount of ram has no bearing on how powerful a pc is, the performance information is gathered from
hard drive read/write speed,
Cpu speed
Memory operations (speed not amount)
and graphics card performance in aero and games.
the lowest score out of any of these is the score you will get.0 -

Have you tried installing the latest graphics drivers? Tried switch off Aero (by switching to the Vista Basic theme)? Any other changes made since you last rated your hardware, like running at a higher resolution than previously?0

post the specs of your machine, we're not all guessing what the problem is then.0 -

The vista score is the lowest score based on 5 tests which are processor, memory, graphics, gaming graphics and primary hard disk.
I would think the score you're getting is based on the primary hard disk which tests data transfer rates and might well include the dvd transfer rates (although it shouldn't do)
If your new drive is slower than the last one then it might well show on the score........but no-one takes any notice of vista scores anyhoo0
