How does one do it on the egg card? Recently got one with a lowish limit (£4000), how long do you recommend that I wait before trying for a higher limit?

Log in. From the left hand side, under 'Maintenance', select 'Egg Card', then select 'Request a new credit limit'.

I'd recommend at least a couple of months. Other people have suggested doing several £2K increases to bump it up to £15K (their maximum amount).

Curious. I notice on their web site I can change from Black to Gold at the press of a button. I just hope that gives me the interest free period!

Our First Direct comes to an end near the end of January. Rang to confirm when all money had to be repaid and sounded out if it would be possible to get a Gold Card (currently have black one). The guy said, pay it off. wait a couple of weeks and then ring up, once they see it has been paid off and then very likely they will give you a gold one, with a minimum of £3k limit for the Gold Card. So am waiting till then.

Thought Id share my recent FD experience.....

Ive held a First Direct current account & CC for 5 yrs. Never had any interest free deal on my CC. I asked for one the other day and they would not give me anything :(

I find it hard to believe that in this competitive market for CCs they would not offer 6 months interest free, to a long standing customer, who has never had a deal with them before. So anyway Im cancelling my CC with them, which is a shame as it has a 12k limit shielded from Experian/Equifax.

Don`t Cancel, according to other FD customers (not one myself) on the boards you can go to their website & switch from black to gold card & maybe vice versa each time you get 0% 6mth with your existing limit.
For more info best to post ? on this board ;)
