INCREASING CREDIT CARD LIMIT ON-LINE

Options
???Does anyone know of any other Credit Cards other than EGG that allow you to up your Credit Limit on-line without having to speak to someone. I've recently tried to increase my limit with Capital One and Abbey and both have said that you need to wait for 6 months by which time the 0% deal would have expired.

The EGG way of increasing the limit in small jumps which allows the system to make the decision rather than getting refered to an advisor is what I'm looking for from any other cards. Can anyone help ?

What you have remember is that even if you do talk to an advisor and ask them to increase ur limit... It's most probably still the system that's making the decision......

I know Barclaycard and Smile allow you to ask for a credit limit increase online, and possibly MBNA

I would be surprised if MBNA offered it as A&L & ABBEY are both affiliated to MBNA and they don't. Maybe the main MBNA card has it's own rules. Thanks

First Direct allow increases online. However I think with all credit cards they will expect you to have held them for a few months before they consider an increase.

In the case of First Direct it is useful, I am just coming to the end of my 6 months 0% so I requested and got the increase I wanted and now I should be able to switch to their gold card and take the shiny new credit limit with me, giving me another 6 months interest free.

Yeah they all do, but the decisions given are not instant. They are referred to an underwriter who will come back with a yes or a no in a few days.

Thgey wouldnt give me a second interest free term!

So I closed and reopened ;-)
  • Really? That might scupper my plans. I'd heard it wasn't a problem. Were you trying to downgrade your card (eg Gold to Black) or was there some other reason they gave for not letting you do it?

I was going Black to Gold, no other reason. Good credit rating, been with FD for years. Plenty of savings (stoozings) with them.

Managed to get one but only after going through with the closure of my previous account and making waves for a week or so.

ALthough my brother managed to swop first time, i dont think they have a policy on it, just whoever you get.

Curious. I notice on their web site I can change from Black to Gold at the press of a button. I just hope that gives me the interest free period!
  • Id ring and chceck with them before you do.

Just to be on the safe side. They might like you more than they like me!
  • Years ago I used to be the type of person who was reluctant to ask for something from someone who I didn't know.

Life works in a way where sometimes you have to ask for something you want from someone you don't know.

Otherwise you go without because the people concerned don't know you want something they might be able to give you.

As has been said, nearly every increase given to people is determined by computer, not by the person you speak to on the phone.
