if the eye drops are a fridge only item, why would Tesco (and indeed my local pharmacy) keep them on the shelf for sale?

Or do they only need to be kept in a fridge after opening?

CookieMon seemed surprised they could be sold over the internet due to the need to keep them in the fridge, so that would say they need to be kept in a fridge prior to opening too.

What does it say on the eye drops you got for your husband?

It does say they need to be kept in the fridge, but what I wondered is why they are displayed in the pharmacy on a shelf, i.e. not refrigerated.

Just that CookieMon, who is a pharmacist, expressed surprise that they could be sold via the internet as he/she seemed to think they'd need to be refrigerated in transit. So would they also need to be refrigerated prior to opening the bottle, or only afterwards?

Nope, they definitely do need to be kept in the fridge all the time. You may find on the shelf that they are a "dummy pack" as in an empty pack so that you can see the item is available for sale, or the eye ointment, which doesn't need to be kept in the fridge.

Unless the item you are looking at is another of the Optrex franchise, in which no other of those needs refridgeration (that I can think of at this minute!!)
