Its just 1 ring and its tripping the main switch on the trip switch boxWins so far this year: Mum to be bath set, follow me Domino Dog, Vital baby feeding set, Spiderman goody bag, free pack of Kiplings cakes, £15 love to shop voucher, HTC Desire, Olive oil cooking spray, Original Source Strawberry Shower Gel, Garnier skin care hamper, Marc Jacobs fragrance.0

OK, the 'main switch' sounds like your RCD (Residual Current Detector). It probably means there is a fault on the ring that is causing earth leakage. RCDs are very sensitive.
You could try and search the web for a replacement ring or bite the bullet and replace the hob. If you don't feel up to either of these tasks (or you have the slightest concern that you might not be able to safely do the job) then get a spark.Apparently I'm 10 years old on MSE. Happy birthday to me...etc0 -

Again, I would recommend a reputable white goods engineer to do the job.Try saying "I have under-a-pound in my wallet" and listen to people react!0

Yes, the obvious answer always is to call an electrician/engineer/plumber etc. This is a moneysaving website though so I assumed the OP was looking for some prctical moneysaving advice.Apparently I'm 10 years old on MSE. Happy birthday to me...etc0

Well money saving as far as is sensible. Have to draw the line somewhere."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

I know how to repair it, but people who are not comfortable with or understand electricity should not attempt their own repairs. It really is a case of safety first, moneysaving second.Try saying "I have under-a-pound in my wallet" and listen to people react!0

I had no intentions of repairing it myself, I wanted advice on what could be wrong so I could see if it was worth repairing, if its repariable or if it is safe to use without using the 1 hob.
Ive been quoted £150 for parts and labour to repair it. It only cost me £200 to buy! Its 4 years old, oven is small, hobs are all burned (dh lol) so I think I will just use it as it is until I can afford a new oneWins so far this year: Mum to be bath set, follow me Domino Dog, Vital baby feeding set, Spiderman goody bag, free pack of Kiplings cakes, £15 love to shop voucher, HTC Desire, Olive oil cooking spray, Original Source Strawberry Shower Gel, Garnier skin care hamper, Marc Jacobs fragrance.0 -

It won't do any harm to use it as it is, but it may be an idea to remove the control knob for the faulty ring. In the meantime, keep asking around. I'm sure it can be done cheaper than that.
The whitegoods forum is very helpful.Try saying "I have under-a-pound in my wallet" and listen to people react!0 -

A quick Google suggests that the part is probably about a tenner, and I can't imagine that replacing it would take more than 10 or 15 minutes.0
