Thanks cabbage - baby isn;t even born yet and I've messed it up though! I am due pretty much any day now and am very hormonal. Will try this Milton tablet if I can find it.:cool: DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :cool::heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

Actually, milton is a really good idea (shows how long it is since I had a baby in the house, I'd completely forgotten about it)
Skintchick, milton tablets are for sterilising baby's bottles so you should be able to get them at boots (possibly also superdrug, and supermarkets? I don't know as I'm out of touch with baby stuff)
Milton is really gentle and it does have a whitening effect when used on nappies. Give it a go, you have nothing to lose - if it is good enough for baby's bottles, it is good enough for its bum too!
Try and get some rest. You will need all your energy once the baby is here. You haven't messed up, you WILL get them white again, I promise.

Is it right that I need to keep them wet until I get the Milton? Someone has said that if they dry it will be harder to get the dye out.:cool: DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :cool::heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

No it wont be harder to get the dye out. Just leave them alone till you get the Milton. If Milton doesnt work I would use Run Away or anything else of the same ilk readily available at any supermarket. and they work brilliantly so stop worrying and chill, deal with it tomorrow. I always have a spare packet of this under my sink because, believe me, it wont be the last time you do it. :rotfl::rotfl:make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
I've heard that too. I don't know if it is true, but f you want to be on the safe side it can't do any harm to soak them overnight in a soapy solution, till you can get to the shop.I'm a retired employment solicitor. UPDATE: I used the Dylon Colour Run Remover after keeping the items wet, and it has worked really well. The towelling nappy liners and nappies are white again, as are the vests, but the velcro on the nappies remains very minty, and the blankets are still a bit mottled.
I now have some Milton tablets - but how do I use them? Do I use them as directed for sterilising, which is a 15-min soak, or do I make it stronger and leave them longer?
if this doesn;t work then I am going to dye the blankets and just accept that mint velcro!
But the product did work for most of the items and I was impressed.:cool: DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :cool::heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

Hi, I am so pleased to hear the stuff worked!
As for Milton - just make it up as directed and leave it as long as you need to (the 15 mins is for bottles).
Whatever you use though, do make sure you rinse the articles well, or even put them through another wash, as you don't want any chemical residue coming into contact with baby's skin.
Hope you can relax now and concentrate on looking forward to having your baby. When is s/he due to make an appearance?
PS I know it isn't very MSE, but if you have a tumble dryer, it is worth giving the nappies a whirl in the dryer as they do come out lovely and soft.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -
I'll probably soak it overnight then and deal with it all tomorrow.
I don;t usually share due dates but according to my calculations baby is due on Monday (in six days) and according to the midwife a week on Friday (ten days).
probably will turn up the week after though!:cool: DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :cool::heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

Hope your baby turns up soon, pleased your sheets are white. I used the milton tablets overnight, just put a couple in a washing up bowl and left overnight, the aim is to bleach, not sterilise the items soaking (unlike soaking bottles and dummies in them where the aim is to sterilise).
I also use milton solution to wipe his toys down with, especially if he has had a tummy bug or cold.0 -
So I ended up not getting them into the Milton for a couple of days, then I left them in it for two nights not one.
the nappies are white again. The velcro is paler mint but still mint. The vests and blankets now have a slight yellow tinge.
Is this normal?
They are now in the wash, with a scoop of the stuff that came with the nappies (hemp and lemongrass powder) and I'm hoping the yllow tinge will go.
The water was yellow-tinged too.
Do you think it will come white again? Or do I need to go and get some dye?
At least the green is all gone from everything bar the velcro, including the green streak on one of the blankets.
But I'm still thinking I may have to dye some of the items if they are still yellowy when they come out of the wash.:cool: DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :cool::heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j
