Can you get your dress taken OUT?

Ahhh, you ladies are lovely, but in answer to the original question, yes. As long as there is adequate seam allowance. Only thing to be cautious with is the fabric and stitch lines when you let it out.
If you get any worries parcel it up and send it me. I'll let it out for you. xx0 -

I'm not a lover of anyone dieting to get into a dress. It puts far too much pressure on the poor lass. If it means letting it out now, if she loses some weight, which she may very well do but not enough to have the dress fit her, at least the corset back is adjustable so can nip her in for a perfect fit.0 -

I'm not sure that's fair.
It was said a few times that the panel could be altered but we also gave other advice too.
Ok, it was unasked for and perhaps unwanted but we were only trying to help. The OP just said she couldn't lose weight in 6 weeks, we thought she was just worrying and had convinced herself she couldn't, so we told her that it was possible and that she could do it.
Anyway, I'm sure on the day, both the OP and her dress will look absolutely lovely, no matter whether she lost weight or if the dress was altered.

I do appreciate all your help and advice, but given my track record i cant take the risk of trying to lose weight and keeping the dress as it is. I will end up with a dress too small for the day, and its only 6 weeks away.
I will try and find a seamstress tomorrow and see if the alterations are possible. I will be honest, im not a perfectionist so as long as the dress fits me, and its not glarringly obvious then i will be happy. I just dont want to look like like i am trying to squeeze into something too small
Thanks very much for all your help and advice and i will let you know how it goesGetting Married Sat Aug 22nd 2009...... so excited!!

I found that cutting down my portion sizes and having snacks such as cereal bars between meals helped me lose 2 stone in about 6 months, I also made sure I exercised twice a week. (badminton and exercise bike/swimming)
I am now less rigid but more or less follow that pattern (only do badminton now tho) but have kept all the weight off.
I follow a general rule of thumb of 150 cals for breakfast, 400 for lunch, 500 for tea and then have 2 or 3 snacks of a 70 - 100 cal cereal bar. Plus I find I can eat something in the evening and drink wine! (I didnt at first tho) I still eat crisps but choose low cal varieties like squares. (96 cals per bag!! lol)
I think eating little and often really helped my metabolism and this is what did it for me.Mummy to Thomas born April 27th 2010 8lb 5oz0 -
my diet was revolutionised by cutting out carbs at dinner

give it a try and see if it helps a bit, also try and up the exercise
You sound very much like me, always found it impossible to lose weight, but cut the carbs down completely (I have toast for brekkie as any other brekkie leaves me hungry an hour later lol)
I have swapped sandwich at lunch for a salad, and im really enjoying it
Dinner I do fish/chicken with veg, or we have salad (although if we have salad at dinner I have pitta bread sarnie at lunch)
But more than anything else the exercise makes a huge difference, I used to go to curves which worked wonders for me but had to quit cus cant afford it anymore, i put a bit of weight back on after that so i am upping the exercise again, but things I can do at home that dont cost money lol
Oh and as for your original question about the dress......If it is tied at the back with a panel behind then I should imagine it will be quite easy for a seamstress to put a new panel in or extend the panel.....and if necessary new ribbon/cord thats a bit longer
Im sure you will be able to sort it out, just breatheMarried on 5th March 2010still lurking on the wedding board tho :rotfl:0 -
I'm going to suggest something radical here: you may not be eating enough!
It's very easy to assume you need to cut calories to lose weight but we do not know how tall or heavy you are. If you have tried weightwatchers before then you will have heard that eating less than your recommended points per day doesn't work-you must eat the exact amount to lose weight, too little and your body deperately hold on to what little you do eat and wont' burn any calories.
Can suggest you pay a quick visit to the weightwatchers websiteand do their points quiz-it will tell you how much you should be eating and it would be a good diet to follow in the run up to the wedding regardless of wheter you want to lose weight, because it is healthy and nothing is forbidden, so psychologically you will feel better and you won't feel bloated on the da. This will make you feel better in your dress without having to cope with a scary, pressurised diet mentality in the run up to the big day. Good luck whatever you do and PM me if you want any more WW info or help xxxRemember to always be yourself-unless you suck. Joss Whedon0 -
Just thought i would give you all an update... i have found a fantastic dressmaker and i took my dress to her and explained the problem. She laced me up in the dress to see for herself and it appears as though when i tried it on last, it wasnt laced up correctly..... the dressmaker did it perfectly and there was no gap to be found! I have approx 2cm left on the modesty panel so she is going to add another inch to it, just so i feel comfortable. She is also going to add a couple of bust darts to give me more shape...
I felt like a princess when it was done up correctly and i am over the moon. Best of all she is only going to charge me £10-£15 for the little bit of alterations she is doing.
Thank you all for your help
ps... some of you may know that i ordered the dress from a chinese seller on Ebay. The dressmaker i took it to today said the dress was extremely high quality and very well made.... she was shocked when i told her i only paid £82 for it! This might put your mind at rest if you were thinking of purchasing online
