LLoydsTSB Are Sharks

I am £54 over my overdraft limit and LloydsTSB are charging £15 a month, plus £15 per DAY, plus interest on top. Are they allowed to get away with robbing people like this?

I was £40 overdrawn for a week, which cost me about £135 if I remember right.
Also, I wrote a cheque which bounced, and although I paid the recipient in cash Lloyds TSB told me they couldn't stop it from being represented.
However, the recipient told me that they had instructed their bank to stop representing it after the first attempt, and it was down to my bank after that.
(Oddly, their bank was Lloyds TSB as well!)
It was still presented 8 times, giving me additional costs each time.
No-one can tell me these are reasonable, same as the £650 in charges I have had in the last 2 months (latest total).
Which is why I'm now claiming it all back.
My total claim so far is about 12k.

I would ask LloydsTSB for their policy on bouncing cheques, I would further ask them for a copy of the cheque. I have managed when I worked to get all but 2 charges back for the customer based on the principle that the cheque can only be bounced twice, ie Refer to Drawer Please Represent and Refer to Drawer.

They are allowed to charge you for being over your overdraft limit since you do not dispute the fact that you are in breach of the terms and conditions of the account. However, I would start the process of reclaiming the charges back since I wouldn't call the amount lawful

I agree. But, Star-flame - do something to manage your budget and stay within your means. You have no right to exceed your O/D limit. If the limit is not sufficient, speak to your bank about reviewing it, but if you find yourself regularly going overdrawn, it's important to address the cause.
If you will the end, you must will the means.

    HI

Call The Gazelle naieve, but why were you writing cheques out that bounce? Did this cheque get written whilst you were some £40 overdrawn? The only way Lloyds TSB or any other bank could not stop a cheque would be if it was guaranteed, which I assume was not the case for you, as you would have stated this. Was this overdrawn amount an amount you went over an overdraft, or was it an "unauthorized amount" without an overdraft in place?
Without you going into specifics, it is hard to tell what you have, or have not been charged for, or indeed whether I would suggest these charges to be fair and accurate, The Gazelle feels you should put your efforts into seeing why the need for you claiming charges is needed, as if you hadn't accrued these charges in the first place, you wouldn't feel the need to try and reclaim them back, The Gazelle thinks that you may not be addressing the real issue to hand, and that may be the fact that you may not be budgeting your money that well, to be getting such charges in the past two months, perhaps you should start a fresh and open a new account, and have what money you have paid into that, and live within the income you have, if you have an overdraft, use it in the knowledge that you can safely pay it back, and furthermore, be aware that it can easily be pulled as fast as it is added, so if your "maxed" out, and salary goes in, and you end up losing your overdraft, you also lose your salary for that month also, a dangerous game!!

I would not say naieve, I would say condescending.
I do not have a salary as I am unemployed, for the first time in my life.
I am in a situation of financial hardship, so my account is always close to overdrawn.
So you are right - I am not budgeting very well! Congratulations!
The funds were available when I wrote the cheque, but charges took me into overdraft.
It was Lloyds TSB who continued to present the cheque, adding more charges each time, even though both parties asked them to stop.
I'm sorry I didn't explain my whole life story in the first place, it was only a short post!
And yes, I do acknowledge that there are bigger problems in my life than the unfair bank charges, but this is one I can fix.
