RBS Key account question.

Does anyone have a Key accont with RBS at all? I applied online a week ago and today i got the booklets through along with a form asking for a signature as my declaration. I have signed and sent it back . I know they did a credit check on me before they sent the paperwork out because i saw it on my credit file but i found a old topic from moneysaving expert on Google where someone else went through the same signing up process with the declaration and still got turned down for an account even after signing and returning the form.

Is this just something they send out automatically to everyone even if you don't get approved? I had hoped that it was a good indication i had been accepted but now i am not so sure.

Was it me that you read about? I've had this happen loads of times - I don;t even want an account with Natwest - its out of principle!

You apply online - they always give the suggestion you've been successful (unless they instant decline you), you then get forms and you sign and return them. This lot then ends up with application verification unit who manually assess it and could then decline you.

No guarantee with Natwest! Until the card comes anyway - BUT - on that note......

Another example for you, they opened me an account the second time I applied, got the card and everything then got a letter closing the account a day later - from application verification unit again!

Seems these guys sit and play judge, jury and exocutioner!

Same with their credit cards, i've been accepted for every card I apply for, get the limit on screen the lot! These range from £300 - £3500 but each time I think they'll send the agreement to sign, they send a decline letter from, you guessed it, application verification unit!

Hi no it was DanDan who's post i saw but i am not allowed to post the link here. He had the same letter i got but the next day he got another letter to say they could not give him an account before he had even signed anything. In my letter there are no forms just a declaration to sign because the application was already made online.
That is why i am now a bit confused because they turned him down before he had even signed anything and returned the declaration letter. Is this a standard thing for RBS that they just send out the same letter to everyone even if you did not get the account?

Ok so the form you had to sign - it would have a ref something like XXPQHGB-4125874 on it? I assume it had all the details you input on it, then on the back you sign and send it back to natwest?

If so, this is normal - its the agreement...... usually they will send this and it is, if u like, a copy of what you typed online.

Its no guarantee, wait til you get the card then you'll know for sure.....

I read the post you mention, its normal for natwest.........

Thankyou Yes that is what they sent me. They also sent 3 rather thick booklets one was about making the most of your account one about current accounts and one about important information which seems a lot of stuff to send out if they are not giving any guarantee at this stage. also a waste of paper of course...I suppose i shall just have to wait and see what happens. i will post any news i get on here in case anyone else finds it helpful.

All this information sent to you is system generated.

I agree in this day and age you would think they would save on the paper and not sent all the leaflets about the account until its actually open.

Even though you have been sent all this info dont build your hopes up.

As the account opening team may send you a decline letter. You may even get decline letter before youve even sent your application back

I would recommend when opening an account with RBS/Natwest to do it in branch rather than online/phone.

As if you do get declined the branch manager has the authority to override the decison, Where as if you do it online/phone once its declined its declined.

Well so far i am still waiting for a letter from RBS but i did phone them today and they said they have the paperwork i sent backand it is currently waiting to be processed. They said i will hear from them within the next week. Still i don't really know if that is a yes or no because they wouldnot tell me over the phone.
If i don't get this account will it be wise to apply elsewhere straight away or should i wait a while?

    Well done OP.

Give it a few weeks youll be able to get a visa debit card on your account rather than the current solo card.

Oh really? Can you tell me how that would work please? Will i need to ask for a visa debit ? I figured once the account has been running well for some time i could maybe upgrade but can i get a visa debit that soon? I like the sound of that.
