2 Defaults on credit rating for 2 years due to CPW error - can i claim compensation??

I know this isnt exactly money-saving advice but I'm not sure where else to look/trust as I'm new to this!

Christmas 2006 I ordered an Orange Contract which got stolen in transit, a replacement was sent, but was then taken in-store within 4 days of receipt for cancellation and a refund.

After receiving bills from Orange it appeared that neither contract was properly disconnected by CPW and I refused to pay for a bill that wasn't mine so Orange put a default on my credit rating for each contract.

It took 18 months to get the refund on the first account and I have just had written confirmation that the second account is going to be refunded to me by CPW too so I can clear that too. Orange have requested written confirmation from CPW that it was their fault and in which case they will remove the defults completelt. I have already been promised this in proviso from CPW but not yet received it in writing.

Once I have this though, is there any way I can claim some form of recompence for the 2 years of affected credit rating I have been blemished with when it was no fault of my own??

I have been refused credit on a few occassions and these are the only reasons it could have been for.

Any thoughts would be gladly appreciated, even if it's only a steer to a financial advice forum.
