Just ordered mine. Many thanks OP, I missed out on the offer last year.

(I also got confused about the date of birth, thinking it was related to the over 70 question, but it went through fine when I entered my own date of birth)

I've got Gas and Electric from British gas, but I get this message:

"Sorry, you are not eligible for this offer
Thank you for requesting your free product. Unfortunately you do not qualify for this offer, please check the terms and conditions. However, you still have an opportunity to make savings on your energy bills by purchasing these products from our energy efficiency e-shop. You can find more information on these services by browsing our e-shop. "

Can anyone point me in the direction of the T&C 'cos I can't see them? I'm thinking I don't qualify because I'm not over 70 and I'm not on benefits

i got that first time when i tried using my child tax credit, then i tried it again using my housing benefit and that worked fine for me, and i'm NOT a british gas customer

Hi folks. Thanks OP for a great find.

I'm not with British Gas, I am not over 70, but I qualified. For the reference number I supplied them with my national insurance number and everything worked fine. Good luck to anyone else who tries this!
Yaaay, I finally conned a man into making a honest woman of me. Even more shocking is that I can put the words "Happily" and "Married" into the same sentence and not have life insurance on my mind when I say it ;-)

We are BG customers but it's a prepay meter, and I couldn't find any documentation for it. The benefits reference number I just put a number from the housing benefits letter. Seemed to work...
This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine

Other codes for this are EF2 & EF4
Told 'em i had someone over 70 in my house, made-up dob, not a BG customer, was elligable. lets see how long they take to deliver it. BTW you are required to give them a phone number, I gave 'em my old unused mobile one.

Still can't get it to work for me, but I've entered my Father's details - he is 74 - and he is eligible so I've sent off for them for him. I'll just have to pinch the things when I next go round there 'cos he won't have a clue what they are, bless him!!!

Thanks OP, have just ordered them and all OK:j

It's strange I am a BG customer and on benefits, (Disability) but I never hear from them about offers for anything.
I got some free light bulbs last year by reading a post on here. Never anything directly from BG.

Just wondering OP how you heard about this offer??

    Great find x

My mum told me about it. She works behind the bar at my local and someone who's a British Gas engineer told her about it.
