We have two display cabinets and a lovely wooden dining table (which acts as Mr LW's computer desk) which all belonged to Mr LW's grandma.
The third display cabinet I picked up for £2 from a car boot sale.
The coffee table is actually a mahogany laboratory bench which was being thrown out, many years ago, from where Mr LW's dad worked, so he brought it home and put legs on it. It's a lot sturdier than anything you'd get in the shops. If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
This is where i belong too! Great idea for a thread
My OH and me are products of disasterous first marriages - i left with one bag of clothes. That was nine years ago. We had nothing when we met 3 years later.
Our house is entirely furnished from other peoples cast offs - even the house we are in was left partly furnished by the previous owner, because she knew we didnt have hardly any furniture of our own.
We still dont have any wardrobes and make do with clothes rails. In my first marriage i was the "house beautiful" queen - but at the end of the day stuff is really just stuff isnt it.
We are just on our feet after clearing awful debts that we brought to the relationship - and i feel it sometimes when we get invited to other peoples houses - and they are really smart.
But - in the end we will get there - and its good to be among like minded folk on here

To be honest Trinny other people probably have awful debts as well. It's good to sort yourself out and you will be stronger for it. We don't have a smart house either. It's like a granny house in that all the furniture is old, from auctions or ebay but we moved house so often, and every house had a different 'feel' to it, that in the end I got fed up of buying even more stuff and decided to get something that had already gone out of fashion. It's comfortable and I feel at home in it0

Snap again, some of my stuff my mother referred to as old looking and old fashioned but I love it because it is useful, made out of solid wood, warm wood colour of teak or yew style and looks homely rather than cold and modern.
Therefore mine is granny style in some aspects and I would rather have all this than "fashionable" items made with foil linings as per many places these days.
Nice how all this makes the place feel homelyJust thinking about putting a bid in for a "new" (to me new) / used table as I need a bigger one for christmas and has no bids on yet at 99p. Then will sell on mine in time to come. Needs some rennovation as some marks on the top however I enjoy all of this work and again don't worry about marking it in the future. With my table I bought new I managed a freak accident and chipped a piece of the foot when something landed on it after a couple of weeks - maybe it was trying to tell me something for the future and not to make the same mistake again in the future! However my little table is nice and hardwearing all the same and will last for a long time again.
Undecided about the auction tablebut do need a bigger one really
