Yorkshire bank ISA problem

I have had a cash ISA with Yorkshire bank since 2002 it was until recently managed by MLC, they informed me in April that they were transferring the fund management to Yorkshire bank this happened in late May, anyway I called in the other day & asked the lady on the counter when would I be receiving a book or certificate which would allow me to carry out transactions with the ISA, she told me that I didnt need either & that all I needed for transactions was the account no. & ID, I am not happy with this, as the only proof that I have the account is a letter from YB saying I have an ISA with them, & I dont want to be taking this letter with me & explaining why everytime I want to access the account.

I intend to visit the bank this week & talk to someone regarding this, I would be grateful for any advice from anybody who as had the same problem or who just knows what I should do.

Thanks in advance for any help offered.

  • You have an account number, you show ID, you get your cash.

    I see no problem.

Sorry not my idea of good banking practice in the 21st century to access my life savings by walking into a bank with a driving licence & an account number scribbled on a piece of paper.

register for Internet Banking which is free and you will see the ISA. If you really need a paper copy take a print and put it in a file, just like a bank statement.

Its the English version of the Clydesdale bank which is the mickey mouse of Scots banks (even we think Clydesdale bank notes are monopoly money)I got a Newcastle isa this year which is printed on a bit of card but at least its something!
I think your best bet is to transfer to a provider that supplies a passbook, try your local Building Society (Yorkshire BS?)
I have a deep burning indifference

my idea of 21st Century banking is doing it over the internet.
Much easier that having to call into a bank each time you need to do a transaction. It is so easy.
Pass books are really a thing of the past and you do pay for this service in the long run.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • Thanks (all), for the positive input, will consider internet banking, but the way I feel about YB at the moment will probably go the way of transferring the ISA, thanks again.
