Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Saturday 11th July! This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly, but if not, it's not a problem.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good

Morning OS lovelies! hi.gif

Found this lovely song and video - it's gentle so will ease you into your day nicely.. I think the lyrics are just beautiful. Click HERE to see/hear it.
hgballoons.gifBargain Rzl, have a great day!
sistercas and Pippa - I think I spent about 3/4 of the final episode of Torchwood in tears... Can't believe this is the last ever series, it has been fabulous stuff! Gripping TV all week.
donnygirl - Well done to your son!
tired mum - you sound like you need a hug today so here is a special one for youhugs.gif
Meanmarie - Congrats for your anniversary yesterday
Noahs - one of the plants labelled 'sprouts' has suddenly become broccolli too which was a nice suprise! They are all still about the size of dessert spoon so far but I am expecting great things!
Halight -That's so awful, but please do try not to stress too much.
Pippa - thanks hon! Am looking forward to trying them!
Ivy - we are in much the same position - we may end up with a new but not as nice version of the car we have now as we cannot afford the extras we paid for last time with my insurance money.
Haribo - hope you have a great holiday

This link might interest the Torchwood lovers among us! BBC. You can also download Torchwood wallpapers for your computer HERE (droolssss..)

Well rain is forecast today so will have to use the TD for the bedding. WM is on as I loaded it yesterday but didn't run it. Having a roast dinner today I think to leave Sunday available for gardening. We have a big slab of belly pork with potatoes from the farm up the road and green beans from the garden.

Well I finally got the contents insurance sorted. I went with Direct Line (half price online offer) as even with added accident protection the cost was a third of the amount 'More Than' wanted to renew my policy.

Cleaned the grouting in the kitchen with bleach and a toothbrush yesterday and it has come up like new. Hard work but worth it! Had to get the home help to finish the bits I couldn't do. No matter how hard I try I cannot get my OH to wipe the tiles over when he washes up...
Enjoy your weekends - here is a squeeezy hug for anyone who would like one..smileyhug.gif

    Good morning :hello:

Diva - thank you for the link to the song - a lovely way to start the day!
Have just been catching up on yesterday's thread:
Halight - ((((hugs)))). That is so irritating. Next time I would make a point of phoning them before you leave the house. I can't believe they don't take contact numbers.
    Donny-gal - congratulations re: DS's job.
Meanmarie - belated happy anniversary wishes to you and OH
I started watching my recordings of Torchwood last night. Looking forward to the rest over the weekend. I've never watched it before and had no idea who Captain Jack Harkness was. Now I understand Sistercas's signature :rotfl:

OS today - make a packed lunch for DD2. she has a full day's dress rehearsal and photo shoot for her dance class's show. BM & WM need to go on and I'm going to make a trifle to take to a BBQ this evening - hope the weather brightens up.

Wishing everyone a very happy weekend,

    kj x

Off to peel and cut up carrots, cut up cucumuber, cube some cheese, make potato salad, mini pizzas and lots and lots of sandwiches.

Have a good day everyone. I am very sorry I haven't caught up with yesterdays thread so a hug to all that need it.

Been raining, hope it turns dry later.

it was absolutely gripping, but it wasnt the torchwood I have grown to love in series 1 and 2. I felt Jack was never really in it this time, I want our hero Jack back! nevertheless it had me on the edge of my seat, and I cried at the end :o
I will look at the linky for the video in a mo x

kjsam I lurve captain jack , he is gorgeous :D just felt he wasnt portrayed as he normally is last night though, you should watch series 1 and 2 , he is great ;)

beautiful and sunny at the moment, will need to get the washing going
I also have a huge pile of ironing to do

feeling really tired and the house is becoming neglected, I am keeping on top of the basics, but the deep down cleaning / decluttering i am just not motivated to do , i need to pul myself together

the hedges are desperate for a trim and if it stays dry i must go and tackle them

not sure what we are having for meals just yet, probably out of the freezer/ garden

anyway hope you all have a lovely weekend x

edited to say happy birthday Bitsy DD hope you have a lovely party :bdaycake:

    Morning folks.

Thanks for the many replies yesterday, I CAN'T believe I signed my name.... It's no big deal, but my superhero identity is now uncovered!

Big day yesterday. Spent the morning out in my boat, I took my Aussie friend and his son out for a little Cornish mackerel fishing. It was quite choppy and very dark skies, but pleasant. After about an hour my friend's son turned a very funny shade of green and lost his breakfast over the side. Well...suffice to say we had to come back in. Bit of a shame as we had not yet caught enough mackerel for tea.
As the rain started when I got the boat on the trailer and has not stopped since, maybe it was a good tiime to quit?

I booked my flights to USA for Christmas holidays, christmas.gifMoney saving bargain! School holidays and I got flights for what I thought was a steal. Maybe cos it was Air France? too many plane crash memories? Milwaukee here we come.....amerflag.gifJust got to sort out a hire car next.... plenty of time for that.

Work today at 1pm.... hate late shifts and a weekend too... kebab for tea perhaps? Can't beat a slice off the old elephant leg, chilli and garlic sauce yummy.gif

Wel, folks have a nice day.....

    Morning all,

Happy Birthday to Bargain Rzl :bdaycake:have a great day , perhaps Nelski will come along with a pressie for [STRIKE]us all [/STRIKE] you :D

Happy birthday to Little Miss Bitsy Melissa, have a great day, the food sounds lovely, what time shall we come ?? :D

I have been awake since 6 , but am sitting up in bed with a cuppa and the laptop, 2 teenage girls asleep on the sofa downstairs prevent me from doing too much :D

Oh has gone to the boot sale to make our fortunes, and later on we are going to look at a new (to him) car, he has a van, but if the three of us go anywhere I have to drive as the van only has two seats, and this new car seems a good deal.

N9eav, lol at your superheroness :D

Not sure what is for tea tonight, its only OH and I as dd is going back with the friend for the night, will look at the meal plan, although I fancy some cold meat, bread and butter and bread and butter pickles :T nice and easy.

Torchwood was amazing but very sad, he us totally gorgeous though, he can always rest his head here if it all gets too much for him :D, him or Johnny Depp would do :rotfl:

I need to hoover through, mop floors and empty bin,I have OH's work clothes to wash, but its raining so not sure how I will get them dry.

My Bil was taken into hospital last night, no great emergency he suffers from Colitas which flared up, he is in on a drip for 24 hrs, hopefully he will be out today, sister was on her own in their very remote house last night and I was worried about her, although they have 4 dogs, so they would have gone mad if they heard anything.

Ok need more tea, have good days all xx

    Morning all

birthday bumps to BargainRzl and little miss Bitsy

dd(19) asked me to pop in last night - why i didn't twig i don't know ... but she's pregnant again - (insert fixed smile smiley)! i hope things go better for her this time. The timing could have been better - she was due to have a breast lumpectomy in two weeks. They're pretty sure it's benign but were going to do a lumpectomy and then a biopsy but now she'll have to have a biopsy and - all going well - surgery later. In the middle of all this her Father turned up and i had to run out of her flat and up the stairs and wait for the text to say he was in. I'm not exactly scared of him any more but i haven't seen him for 18 years and i don't mind if i don't see him again!

went out last night with old work friends - was brilliant and i restrained myself just enough to not have a hangover this morning and i've woken up to find myself unexpectedly and gloriously Home Alone - oh happy day! am going to have a bit of a blitz, fix my bike and then head to The Town of Many Charity Shops for a wardrobe update - will this excitement never end!

oh N9aev - last night coming home from the pub i fantasised about my walking home kebab only to find they,ve changed their opening times ..... this morning the thought of it makes me feel quite queasy :)
I'm going to feed our children non-organic food and with the money saved take them to the zoo - half man half biscuit 2008

    Morning All

:jHappy 1st Birthday Miss Bitsy:j and many Happy Returns for Bargain Rzl too :beer:.

Meanmarie - Belated Happy Anniversary for yesterday - 39 years is impressive :T

Thank you for the birthday wishes for DD - she had a lovely day - Bitsy I know what you mean - I dont know where the last 14 years have gone !

Can I just clarify that I do like the name Steve - I just didnt think of you as a Steve N9eav :rotfl:

Yesterdays barbeque went very well but after 2 days of entertaining I am shattered. We are off to London later so think will probably snooze in the car. So no cooking for me today. This morning will pop over the road as our local football club have their annual funday - should be interesting. Suns not shining at the moment but at least its dry.

Bit concerning about the healthy man who died of swine flu - not far from here either. DD is in bits over it. She has got a heart complaint so does worry and the school seem to have made it worse. But I guess we will carry on as normal.

Off now for a nice surf before anyone else wakes up.

    Good morning all!

Happy birthday to BargainRzl and big little Miss Bitsy! xx

Stef - hope all goes ok for your dd xx

Well I think I might be on here under false pretences today, lol! Staying with oh this weekend, so no housework for me and probably no cooking - the joy of him being a chef and not liking to watch how I chop things up!

Had a lovely evening yesterday, went to oh's parents for dinner, and took hm apple pie and choc and mint mousse with us - didn't realise they didn't like choc until we got there, oh merrily let me make it as he loves it! Anyway his parents are planning on buying a house in Bulgaria and doing it up and living out there, and they need help driving everything out, so somehow I got included on a road trip across Europe and Eastern Europe, crossing the Alps and the Carpathian Mountains - sounds quite exciting! Since I was driving I hadn't drunk anything so I'm still puzzled as to how I got involved in it at all though!

Well today is going to involve a spot of shopping for me, oh is at work, and some bargain hunting for stuff for the kids - dd2 is off to Spain in a couple of weeks with her best friend, and needs some hot weather clothes! Their dad is staying at my house with them this weekend and is meant to be taking her shopping, but as he keeps moaning he's hard up then I have my doubts that it will happen! Good job he had enough money to buy himself a new computer and a couple of suits last week - though perhaps that's why he's now hard up lol! Anyway have left her some money and instructions to hit Primark! She is the only one of my four who is interested in labels, so whilst she loves a bargain she does like the odd "posh" item - managed to get her a couple of Billabong bikinis reduced to £10 from £46 each last week, so hopefully they have satisfied her odd craving!

Anyway, as I said I seem to be here under false pretences today, don't think I have anything than that OS bargain hunting to report - will be eating something hm for dinner, just prob not hm by me!

Have a good day all, hugs to anyone in need xx
