Aug. 07 is also the date on the chicken and potato big soups, my husband has tried those and he said that they looked as though they had dehydrated slightly and were quite thick. He added a little water and then heated the soup in the microwave, it looked a slightly odd colour but it seemed to taste ok. I do not think that tinned food goes off for a very long time so long as the tin is completely intact. I think you would have to try it and judge for yourself, I imagine if you were really unhappy with it then you could ask for a refund.
  • Thanks Jaytin, I suppose at the price they are I can't really go wrong, I just don't like waste :o
  • We visited the warehouse today for the first time and are really impressed with all the stuff we got. We got several different types of soup, prawncrackers, choccie fingers, snack a jacks popcorn, sugar free sweets and so much more I can't remember it all lol.
Dan an his staff are so friendly and all the food is great can't wait to go back agan soon for more stuff lol!!!!
  • I've got a question about the reduced salt/sugar beans.... I'm getting the hang of using stuff past the best before date but the beans on there are best before Aug 07, has anyone tried them? I usually buy the reduced salt/sugar stuff for the kids so am used to the taste.
For research purposes I've opened a tin- I can spare one for the greater good and I have got plenty...
They seemed to me to be pretty much the same as all the other baked beans I've had. The only downside for me is the low sugar/salt- I think I will have to add some:o . Its difficult to tell without daylight, but maybe they aren't quite as orange as they usually are, and maybe- though I'm not sure about this- a little softer round the edges? I really need a control group of another tin of baked beans. However, I don't think you would have any problems with them. I just wish I had realised the curry beans were arriving as these are a bit bland without the salt...
BTW I got 3 orders combined this evening. I'm not sure what I was thinking when I ordered, but lets just say that for the next 6 months it is soup for every available lunch- or beans, obviously- or possibly both. Also I am fully supplied with flax based tortilla chips for the next year and also there is plenty of mayo and dip here if anyone pops in unexpectedly. I am also unlikely to run out of seeds for a while.:D
  • Thanks mcallister1, I appreciate you sacrificing a tin for research! :D

I really don't know why I'm hesitating about buying them, it's not likely to bankrupt me is it?! :D

True enough, but I do understand that you wouldn't want them to go to waste either, I am the same now, food is getting too expensive to throw away ANY of it! Also I usually remind myself how many people in the world are close to starvation. _pale_
As for the Big Soup, my husband insists that I have a look at a tin for myself as he has not a clue whether it's totally ok other than the taste lol :p I will report back at lunch-time...

In case you're worried- I am going to eat the beans for lunch after decanting them last night...:p
It is a bit tricky balancing the risks of something being a bit below standard with the price, and the issue of waste. If any of the food was really odd, Dan would give a refund, and I guess it would be wasted whether you had bought it or not, as no one would want it. Its just that you would be binning it instead of AF.

    Part of the Furniture
I use baked beans in Chilli Con Carne - that's the plan for any of these that don't get eaten as beans on toast etc - can't see I'll be able to tell the difference in a huge pan of chilli:p
Smile and be happy, things can usually get worse!

I think it was a psychological problem, if I had not said anything about the soup being over it's date then OH probably would not have thought twice about eating it. As it is I think because he EXPECTED a problem he may have imagined one lol Also another thing to point out is that some tinned soups are a little on the 'thick' side, but he is used to the ready-to-eat pouches and they are a bit thinner, so I think that maybe didn't help either.
As for the beans, I don't often eat beans by themselves as I am not that fond of them, but yes I do add them to other things and I think in Chilli or Boston Baked beans they would be really good and really cheap! ;)
I sometimes pep up ordinary beans with a big spoonful of pickle, such as Branston, plus, a bit of curry powder or mix of cumin, coriander and turmeric and then heat them up. :D

My soup has a far-gone BB date and I've noticed that the texture is a bit strange (bit lumpy looking) when you dump it out of the can, but once you heat it up, it's just fine!! Tastes lovely too.
