Oh yes Barnaby-bear, the Open University has been a godsend to me and in my intention to improve my education, it is just that my parents really wanted me to take the chance while I could to actually attend a university. It was only when we looked into it all that we realised that it just wasn't possible, much to their disappointment.

It's also very flexible, which is absolutely perfect for myself and the care of my children and after an initial struggle to get my head around things (last formal education hard work education was in 1986, did do a GCSE via night school in 1994 but I didn't even have to think for that one!) but I appear to be cooking with gas now!

IKMC - I am not exactly a spring chicken!
I *love* the OU - I can honestly say I've had my best students from there - the one's who meet the grade yet have three small deranged kiddies in hand - when it comes down to it I need people who solve the problem and if you yield a decent degree with small people in tow it bodes well..... If you can get on with work and also fit in the study as a love... when there is no work the productivity is great.....

I admire you as I want to go back into education (delayed yet again due to health) but wouldn't be able to study with the OU.
I need a firm hand as i'm not strict enough with myself
I'm also a bimbo as most of my posts probably :oprove:rotfl:

    Good luck!
possibly the key - those with the OU really seem to cut it......

Somehow I think its the university, not him specifically who is 800 years old. And convince yourself anyway you like, an old red brick will ALWAYS look better on a cv, an employer doesn't know the course content, but often there is a higher practical content when the course is aimed at the students who might not be quite capable of the complicated theory.

no the practical work is not practical as such, but working on coursework for reports for the environmental organisations. More like building and adding to existing knowledge with real life examples

and you got a 2:2... this isn't rocket science your average admin. assistant paying tax for your degree can figure this one out... academia really has to justify itself.... what were the conclusions - use more email? To be honest I have SE nstudents (not the posh kind) whos have family who have finding enough food to eat issues who still try and fund the education of a relative...

my conclusions were the results which the uni are now using to reduce costs and carbon with the Carbon Trust. This offers both a environmental and an economic basis. Involved was measuring electricity and paper use in Uni academic and admin departments and different methods were appropriate to different departments. Included was the planning of centralised printing systems working with information tech, head of departments and the Uni energy management department
