BT Deposit ?

Hi people, I recently ordered bt broadband and home phone from there website, anyway 3 days later i got a call from them firstly telling me i couldn't be connected for 3 weeks as they were so busy and secondly to say they wanted a £260 deposit plus a £120 reconnection fee!

Is this normal? i have only just left home, Ok i don't have a great credit rating but £380 just to get broadband and phone? just seems unfair !

I have only been at my new address for 2 weeks, and they said the tenants before me left a bad debt but how is this my problem?

Has anyone else had this issue? i would be willing to pay a small deposit but not £260 !

Any help or replies would be greatly received, i am desperate to get broadband and don't know what to do now as if bt dont free up my line im stuffed as no other provider will take me. And mobile broadband is not an option as i live in a village with a bad signal.

    Hi,

The connection deposit is based on your current credit rating which is decided by credit rating companies outside of BT. The problem could be with the address which I can check. Ill send you a PM with contact details.

Go to the post office for your line, no rip off charges for connection, and a 1 month contract so no deposit.
then shop around for your BB connection. God knows why people go with bt, when theres cheaper and better services avaliable.

    Hi,

The connection deposit is stupidly high for something which costs £11 per month. The problem could be with the address which I can check. Ill send you a PM with contact details.

    Fixed it for you.

Here is a serious question though:

Why (as a company) don't you offer a lower deposit in return for a credit limit on the account?
  • sorted now guys, went with talktalk/tiscali 59.00 connection fee NO deposit and they can come a week sooner than BT :-)

And there package worked out cheaper, just annoyed at BT still everyone i talk to feels the same,
