I would be VERY wary of contacting insurers if you dont intend claiming. They DO take a note and it WILL effect any NCD you had regardless of the sketchy details they have. It is recorded as an accident whether a claim is made or not.:j0

 Thanks for the suggestion though.
So where did the £260 come from?
Sorry, I have read the thread but must have missed something!

if you are thinking maybe it would be better to pay for repairs yourself - we managed to repair our colour coded bumper for £50. We found the same colour and year car in the scrapyard which had a side crash so bumper was perfect. Paid £40 for it and £10 fuel...did have to do some phoning around and then made it a day trip to collect - but worth it to save £100's0

I cracked the rear bumper (cc'd) of our car, not by reversing into another car btw! OH was adamant it would cost hundreds...
In the end we replaced it with a colour matched bumper which a friend got hold of for us - similar are available on ebay - and fitted (which was a faff but they managed - it can be done DIY). To match the colour, you need some number off the chassis (I think! The ads on ebay explain better than I can). It cost £130 0 0

FWIW I think it's scandalous that a low speed bump can result in such an expensive repair. Equally, the damage caused by people opening their car doors can be very expensive to repair. Car designers should be more customer-focussed.

If you make a claim on your policy, you will always pay the excess stated unless the insurer agrees otherwise.
It matters not whose fault it is.Don't bother trying to sue me - I've got no money!0

For that amount and for the hassle of going through your insurers I would definately sort it yourself and forget the insurance company. Not only does it count against you as a claim it affects your premium next time you renew and you have to declare it to any future insurance companies. Can cost more than £60 in the long run!!!!:j The £2 coin savers club = £90 :j0
