your local council will check the carseat for you, you dont need to go to a store. see previous post.
we went with the Britax cosy tot premium too, the Britax rock a tot proved too complicated with the carrying handle !
Yes i realise, but for example my countys checks are only once a month in varied locations.,and were in september and october only. You cant just turn up on their doorstep.Again,no use if They have bought the carseat combo by then and find it to be wrong.0 -
If you know what car you are getting you could always be cheeky and ask for a test drive of the car or go to the dealership garage and test drive it from there and as long as there is no sales man/woman with you, you could swing in by where you plan to get the car seat and try it out!!
Really cheeky but worth a try!!

Its a tricky job getting the right car seat, even harder when you know you will be using different cars. I have had 3 children, loads of different cars and 9 car seats!!! With infant seats the length of belt was issue with one car seat. It fit in my car but not in hubbys. So had baby seats. I got a new car and neither of those seats fit at the right angle. Then with 2nd stage seats. Suitable for my car, not in hubbys then needed 3 in a row and had to change them to fit all in - then they didnt without undoing the buckles going around corners - aargh! I have a sharan now which came with 2 seats with built in child seats for stage 2 upwards so all these seats are in the attic abandoned! I have a friend whos in my car once a week - her infant serat wont fit in my car - thankfully one i had stashed did.
Having the right seat is so important but a huge pain at the same time. Hope you get it figured out. Not always recomended, but could you borrow one until you have your new car.0 -
I found the travel system invaluable. It all depends on your circumstances and your baby. I am 10 mins drive from shops, would never have shopped with a newborn for 3 hours, and would always take him out for a feed, cuddle etc anyway. Moving the carseat from car to wheels was a godsend.
Plus he had colic so hated sleeping flat. He had all his daytime naps in the carseat for the first three months because it was the only way to get him to sleep. I only used the carrycot on the wheels for a couple of weeks as he hated it and wanted to see what was going on.
Anyway, I digress.
I would say that the best thing to do is find a carseat, check it fits the car, then choose a travel system. Not the other way round. When T was tiny the MaxiCosi cabrio was about the safest 0+ seat, so we chose a buggy that fitted that (but don't buy a Quinny Buzz for that reason as they are awful).0 -
I know that when I bought travel system from Mothercare and cot from Toys R Us both offered option to return it if anything bad happened (sorry to be morbid) but it might be worth asking them if this applies if you find it doesn't fit a new car.
Also do you know anyone with the car you want who would let you borrow it to try out the car seat?
Or could you see if local dealer with let you have car for a 'test drive' to see if car seat will fit?
I agree with Donna-j about using car seat for your child to sleep in - it doesn't hurt once in a while. My son also had bad colic until he was 4 months old and he occasionally slept in his car seat all night because we had to take him out in the car to get him to sleep at all and then I wasn't going to wake him up again to put him in his Moses basket!
IMO being pragmatic is the best thing that you can be when caring for a baby...You should never call somebody else a nerd or geek because everybody (even YOU !!!) is an"anorak" about something whether it's trains, computers, football, shoes or celebs:rotfl:

Hi,
Anyone got the most recent report for Car seats (Group 1 and above)? If so, could you PM me and I will forward my email address?
Or does anyone have any idea what came top in 2006 (preferably with ISOFIX), I am aware that the Britax DUO Plus ISOFIX was a high contender in 2005 but am after a more recent report.
Thanks in advance.

Even better, the library will also have access to Which online for you to use (free) and you can search for keywords etc on that.0 -
