:Thooray for him but  the price of insurance
Whilst I understand that the only reason insurance for young drivers especially boys is high is because of the statistics/proof that they have more accidents etc it doesnt help my lad who wants to buy himself a little car.
I completely trust him and know he wont mess about with car, (this is not me being doting mother if was other son would not be saying this!!), he has a summer job at a Dr's surgery so could really do with a car but not sure he can afford the insurance
Anyway get to the point, have any of you got any other advise for cheaper insurance for him. He has his pass plus booked for next week and we are starting to look for cars now. He fancies a Ford Ka, I thought a fiat Punto or Nissan Micra.
any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Jo

I had a ford Ka, nice little runabout but the bodies are really soft, least little touch and theres a dent. Imagine what would happen in an accident.
Wouldnt touch one now since i saw one after an accident.
Toyota have about the best safety in small cars IMO.
Try Cooperative Insurance Society, they are pretty good with young drivers or at least they used to be.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

When I passed my test in 2000, I had a G-reg Ford Fiesta.. 3rd party insurance (not even fire and theft cover) cost me £1,500. It's just simply not cheap. Never has been in recent history, and probably never will be.
Although I'm pleased to announce 9 years later I have a lovely car and pay around £300 for fully comprehensive insurance, legal cover, guaranteed like-for-like courtesy car, all-glass, breakdown cover, protected NCB and so on and so forth. So it does get better. If I took off all the 'extras' it'd probably come in at half that figure.Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j

Steer clear of Saxo's, my son bought his from a relative for £80 and cost £1600 for the first year, fully comp with Churchill, although 12 months down the line its down to below £700. Insurance told us it is high risk car and very popular,(not sure why myself as an aging mother). Unfortunately first year insurance is bite the bullet and hope you have a accident free year and it will come down.0

Saxos are one of the most popular models for racers to buy, modify, race, and crash.0 -
If *most* 17 year olds didn't act like boy racers on the road there would be less accidents for age group and hence cheaper insurance. :beer:0

We put our 17 year old son into a pre reg Fiat Panda 1.2 at £5.6k when he passed.
Year one insurance with Direct after pass plus £1.6k then £900 in year two. He has just gone to Endsleigh for year three at £600. No one will protect his NCB.
Find out if his insurance company has a compulsory excess for a young drivers and make sure you all understand how it works.
His cousin took a student job with Tesco to claim staff discount on his motor insurance.0 -
Endsliegh can provide cheap insurance for youngsters.
Equally, if you put yourself or your partner on the insurance as a second driver, it can bring down the cost.:j [STRIKE]Debt Free[/STRIKE] Savings Wannabe! :jCurrent problems: £107 overdrawn in bank, £112 in unpaid DD'sSavings made: £00 -
Would he consider a sex change....or maybe going in drag for a year or two until his/her premiums come down to a more reasonable level?
