whenever I try to access hotmail something pops up telling me my computer is infected with a virus and I must download a program now. This seems to stem from a winfixer and another cookie, but whenever I clear them they keep coming back!
something has got into my computer, earlier I clicked on credit cards in the forum and got directed to an american credit card site. Is there anything I can download to help? I have ad-ware and that clears the critical objects, but they keep hacking in again!

Just beware the use of the word hacking rings massive alarm bells.
I doubt that someone is hacking into your PC it sounds like AdWare or Spyware
I would download and run http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx first off just to see what happens.
As stated by Rex_Mundi in another thread just because winfixer pop ups appear it DOES NOT mean you have winfixer so lets try and get things in perspective.0 -

@Browntoa :wave:
If winfixer is already on the PC then surely no pop up or at least no asking for
the user to download as that would write to the registry I think this maybe
a case of Browser Hijack along with spyware.
But then again I am out of my face on painkillers as I did my back in
and im in ruddy agony, But its just a thought nowt more nowt less.

It is certainly true that just seeing the winfixer popup does not mean you are automatically infected. This popup is associated with infected (or rogue) sites. I've seen it myself a few times, and am 100% sure that it came from the site and not the computers I've seen it on. I've had to clean a computer of this in the past, and the problems you will have if you've got this on your system go far deeper than just seeing a winfixer popup.
Good basic security will stop an infection of this malware in the first instance (my favourite is not using IE to browse the net).
It does look as though the OP has got an infection of some sort in this case. From the sound of it, it looks like a spyware infection, or browser hijack. Running scans by the normal antispyware apps (Spybot, Adaware, Windows Defender, and even Hijack This) would be a good move in this instance.How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?
