I don't mean for this to sound condescending, so please read at face value! This highlights the importance of keeping on top of your own bank account. I login to online banking at a minimum every week and usually much closer to every day or two. I ensure what I expect to go out has done so (against my budgeting spreadsheet), and to ensure nothing unexpected has gone out in the way of banking errors, card fraud, errant or incorrectly calculated direct debits and so forth.

It can be a bit of a mare to setup and do properly, but once you have a routine it's extremely quick to do and could help save some of the issue you've experienced regarding faulty direct debits. You'd have noticed that on the day you expected your O2 DD to fire, nothing happened. On checking the day after and still not having come out, it would (well, should!) have generated a phone call from you to them to ask why.

Can you tell me how these 1000s of people know you haven't paid your bill? An alarm doesn't go off saying Mr. Fwog hasn't paid his bill and they scramble for the phones.

I don't know what hiccup has happened for it not to collect your money, the only time I know it to happen is when the direct debit fails because the bank returns it and it deletes the account details, but ultimately the responsibility lies on you to make sure your bills are paid.

Maybe I'm just anal about it but I check my bank the day after a direct debit has been due to make sure it has left my account accordingly.

You still haven't said what you actually want as a result from your bitter complaint. We can't help you if you don't state what you want.

    ?

    Im not 'after' anything.

I feel as a customer with 02, its my duty to highlight short fallings with service.
The reason I pointed out the 'good will' gesture ,was that it was the time I wasn't enjoying the contracted commitment from 02 (contracts work both ways if you didn't realise) Therefore, impossible to be a 'good will' gesture if you cannot charge for it in the first place.

If everyone took 5 minutes to log and report the failed commitments and promises made when dealing with call centres, I'm sure 02 and others would have a more credible market standing.

    Regards

    Fwog
