3 Mobile - Don't touch them with a bargepole

I have been with 3 for 17 months and am now in the process of trying to cancel my contract as I am getting an iPhone. I first emailed to see whether it could be done that way but apparently not. An Indian guy called me on Tuesday and thus ensued 15 of the most frustrating minutes of my life!
I told him the reason I was cancelling was due to wanting an iPhone, which of course is only available on o2. He then starts offering me all sorts of deals because I am 'one of their best customers' (I only spend £20 a month!). I continue to insist that I want to cancel my contract. He then says he wants me to see if anyone else in my family would like to take on my contract. Even though I tell him no he insists on giving me 24hrs to speak to them. I end the call out of sheer frustration.
The next day (exactly 30 days before my contract expires) I call them myself to cancel the contract. The lady I speak to tries to soften me up by telling me that I share her best friend's name so she feels a connection with me!!! She then also proceeds to tell me I am one of their best customers etc. Then she tries telling me that the iPhone is rubbish and 02 are rubbish (they may well be but I'm entitled to find that out for myself). Again she tries to get me to agree to my boyfriend taking on my contract (even though I tell her he has his own contract with them!). I get so angry that I eventually hang up.
I have now sent a complaint to their customer services department in Glasgow stating that if my contract is not cancelled in 30 days I will be making a complaint to the regulator. I have never, ever had such a bad experience with a call centre. They simply wouldn't take no for an answer and tried to bully me into signing up for another 18 months.
I cannot advise people strongly enough - DO NOT TAKE OUT A CONTRACT WITH 3!!!

I'll second that - I was with them over 6 years ago, when they first started up business. SH*t then Sh*t now....
AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID - and then Avod some more.
3 is NOT the magic number - 3 in this instance, is the smack yourself around the head with a shovel, in a heady cocktail of white hot fury and puke inducing frustration, number.

Most companies try very hard to retain your custom, best not to enter into any discussion.
I suggest you send a recorded letter to cancel and terminate your direct debit. I sincerely hope you did not authorise a DD from your credit card? These can be difficult to cancel.

Yep, letter gone off by recorded mail today and DD will be cancelled as soon as my 30 days notice is up next month.
I agree that most companies will try very hard to retain customers but if I had been wavering about leaving three their treatment of me over the phone would have convinced me otherwise.
P.SThankfully my Dad is giving me his old iphone so I'm getting a SIM only contract - if it turns out the iPhone isn't for me I can just go back to my old handset.0 -

Just to add that earlier this year I had a horrible experience with 3 trying to cancel a mobile broadband plan. Would never use 3 again, even if it were free. Worst company in the UK today.0

If you pay a month in advance and wait for another 30 days you will pay for the 19th month? You might want to check your dates and make sure to cancel before 19th payment is due."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Never have a conversation with them, just state that you want to cancel and repeat yourself until they get the hint.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

I tried that tactic but they both just kept talking over me and insisted they weren't trying to sell me anything!! Umm, I think you are.
As for the relevence of it being an Indian guy (and girl the second time) from whoever it was made that comment, it is relevent because I know many people have had problems with indian call centres. I find them hard to understand and fail to see why any company who wants to keep customers would outsource their call centres there. It's nothing to get your knickers in a twist over.0
