Paying JSA up till 1st pay day?

I thought I'd heard somewhere you could claim JSA up to the first payday, but I think I must have just got it from someone as confused as me about it!
If memory serves me correctly, at one time you could, but by the same token you could not claim from the first day of unemployment either.0 -
only if your claiming housing benefit or council tax benefit can you make a 4 week claim run on which would take you up to your first pay day0
