Paying JSA up till 1st pay day?

Finally got myself a good job after months out of work. I seem to recall reading somewhere that you can still claim JSA up till your first pay day, rather than up till you start work? I will have to go a full month after starting my new job before any salary goes into the bank.

If anyone can point me to some official information on the subject I'd be very grateful.

Thanks.

I wouldnt have thought so. It would mean you being paid twice for that particular week/month. Would be nice though eh.

But congratulations on the new job:j

    Congratulations on the job.
You will have to sign off the day before your job starts, so the last effective day of your claim is the day before your employment begins, and that is the date that you will be paid JSA to.

JSA however is usually paid two weeks in arrears, so you should still receive two weeks money. If you are without money, and there is a serious and immediate threat to your health and safety (you have no food or means to cook for example) you can apply for a Crisis Loan for alignment to wages to enable you to purchase food, gas or electricity.

You might be entitled to a Job Grant if you have been on JSA for 26 weeks or more.

Thanks everyone. And yes ... getting this job feels really good! And to anyone looking for work, my advice is to learn from your mistakes (job seeking is a real learning experience!) and keep on plugging away at positive things to improve your chances and boost your morale.

Congrats on the new job reheat! :)

My wife recently started work (after over 26 weeks on JSA) and had £250 job grant paid into her bank on the same day as her last JSA payment. So, as Karent already posted, if you've been on JSA for this long then it's definately worth asking.

Thanks :D. No I've not been on JSA that long. My contracting work sort of petered out early in the year, and it was a while before I twigged it was really gone for good ... the odd day here and there fooled me into thinking I still had more work on the way. So I didn't start claiming till April. Tried to backdate it but they refused. Thanks though.

The job grant is £250 if you have children, £100 if you do not. Have you enquired into return to work credits?
Debt free = December 2010...as of March 2006 it is now January 2010..... as of December 2008 it is now December 2009 :j hopefully sooner!!
:jDEBT FREE:j January 2012, took longer but I got there, all by myself, through sheer hard work and pride!

Return to Work Credit is a credit paid if you have left Incapacity Benefit or ESA for work. Nothing to do with leaving JSA.

Thanks. In truth I'm just grateful I've found myself a good job, and having done so I'm happy to accept my start date being when JSA stops. We can scrape by and it wouldn't seem right to try pushing the system any further. I thought I'd heard somewhere you could claim JSA up to the first payday, but I think I must have just got it from someone as confused as me about it!
