My sister is going on holidays tomorrow and needs her sat nav updated to take with her. My sister has paid almost £100 for updates for her Garmin nüvi 610 and I have managed to get the update/program to download to my computer because she couldn't get it to download to hers. The program is 3.03GB and she has not got a memory card in the sat nav. Her sat nav has a 415MB capacity of which 318MB are used.

I can not get the file to extract is that because the sat nav does not have enough memory?

Should she purchase a new sat nav or a memory card? If she has to purchase a memory card what size and what price is it likely to be, it requires a SD card. If she should purchase a new sat nav which one would be best and how much would it cost?

Please help if you can as she needs it for her holidays and she has been trying to get it updated since Sunday.

If you go back to the store there's a section for the requirements which tells you how large the card needs to be if the maps won't fit onto the device itself.

Cheapest option is to buy a memory card:

www (dot) ebuyer.com/product/134669 - Price for this £7.62 + Delivery - It is a mirco SD card but it comes with adapters so it will fit in the Sat Nav. Size - 4GB.

PC World do a 4 GB for £9.99.

As she has already bought the updates I wouldn't recommend purchasing a new Sat Nav.

    ** replace the (dot) with . **

Will 4GB be enough or should she purchase a bigger card for future updates? What is the difference in a SD card and a SDHC card?

SDC are designed for over 4gb although they looks the same as SD cards they are not backward compatible, so only use them if you know that the card will work

I have a 3 year old garmin satnav. I seem to recall using a program to extract the data from a CD I got from Garmin to update onto garmin the file appeared bigger than the card but after extraction it fitted on

Garmin are quite helpful with customer support

Which SD card would you recommend from the Argos website?

Memory cards tend to cost a lot more in shops. I got mine from a online shop but it was only 2gb card then. Garmin told me I needed a 2gb card hence why I found them helpful on customer support

If you have problems with the garmin I found these forums helpful they have guides too

When you purchase a sat nav update can it only be used on one sat nav? My sister has a Garmin nüvi 310 as well and we were wondering if she could update it with the same program?
