All but the very toughest types of meat will cook fine in the Microwave.
Chicken, chops steak etc will be great, just not brown. Google for microwave meals and you will find loads. Good Luck

As dh was the one that caused the problem in the first place, he's not really in a position to moan if he can't have meat for a few days. Perhaps he'll treat you to a take away. Good Luck.

We've just moved house and our new oven isn't going to be delivered till Thursday, and I don't know when we can get it connected. So in the mean time only have a microwave to cook with. I rarely use it, so don't know much microwave cookery. Any ideas on good things to make this week. I couldn't bring myself to buy any microwable meals, so expensive and all stuff I could make myself so easily with an oven.
My ideas so far are a bit limited to baked potatoes....
    Thanks!

Hello, I did a VERY stupid and dangerous thing saturday.
I steam cleaned our oven without switching it off. :(
Having watched QVC, I never heard them say "make sure you switch the oven off" and d'oh it didn't occur to me and it went bang.. Fuse gone, replaced the fusewire but unfortunately it seems to be shorting out somewhere.
So the oven is out of order until thursday when it will hopefully be fixed.
This means I have : No grill, no oven, no hob.
I do have a microwave, a slow cooker, sandwich maker and a steamer.
So can anyone suggest something we could make for tonight?! I am at work at the moment, so wont have the opportunity to use the slow cooker.
Might have to be microwaved jacket potatoes.. We had those yesterday and saturday though !! :-(
Anyway of cooking pasta in a microwave?!
    Thanks
    Laurie

You can cook pasta in a microwave, as well as rice. You just need a big enough bowl. Basically all you are doing is boiling it - make sure you cover the bowl, add enough water and make sure it doesn't boil over. You may want to do it on a lower power for longer. I haven't cooked pasta in a m/w, but rice I have done many times - give it a stir now and again and it'll be fine.

You can easily m/w yourself a sauce to go over your pasta/rice. Tinned chopped tomatoes, herbs, finely diced onion, cook it down, add a spoonful of cream cheese and bits like bacon/ham if you want. Yum (yes, you can do bacon in a m/w too - just won't go crispy. Put on a dish between paper towel and bast it for about 30 secs-1 min then check until it's cooked through.
  • Pasta and rice you can do in the micro, along with a sauce for them, tomato based like TM has said.

Slow cooker is fab!! I rarely use my oven and use my slowcooker loads.

There is a whole index on slow cooker recipes, but usually whatever you cook on your hob can be recreated in your slowcooker.
