Just to let you all know that there is also a possibility of a two day strike on the 3rd and 4th of May. Not definate but my friend recieved a letter from school saying this could be happening.

Just wanted to warn you all in advance.
I was just going to mention same thing. My dad is in Unison and these are the dates he was told and it was reported in our local paper. May 4th will play havoc with the local elections which are due to take place.

I'd be asking your councillors why you have a fortnightly collection
we in peterborough have a fortnightly collection, its because one week its household waste and the next week its garden waste(to be made into compost) we also have a fortnightly collection for recycling, that also goes into a large wheelie bin, at first we all moaned but moving to aylesbury soon shows how much peterborough and huntingdonshire councils are doing to reduce landfill.. havnt a clue how buckingham councils are ever going to reach there quotas with the little they ask to be recycled
Those we love don't go away,They walk beside us every day,Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear
Our thoughts are ever with you,Though you have passed away. And those who loved you dearly,
    Are thinking of you today.

As the previous poster says its because we have recycling collecting the week that our normal waste isnt. We have only just been moved onto this scheme. One week they collect the grey wheelie bin with all our unrecyclable waste, the next week they collect our green wheelie bin (garden waste) and 2 recycling tubs - one for glass and cardboard and the other has paper and cans in. The day of the strike meant our grey bin wasnt collected but now as they have added an extra collection day (collected instead of green wheelie bin on recycling week) we are getting it emptied 3 weeks running!

I can imagine there being trouble if the strike happens on the 3rd/4th of May as this is when key stage 3 (y9) SAT exams are, and this would cause havoc in schools.

Plus, its not really fair to lose teaching time for any pupil who is in the lead up to exams.

Vicky - you may end up with a training day, or time to do your own thing in school. We did coursework moderation on the day of the last strike, so i got the afternoon off, and didn't lose any pay. I can't see you losing pay if you do as the school asks. - We were told if we didn't go in because we didn't want to cross the picket line, then we wouldn't get paid. Lucky that teaching staff arrived early enough to avoid it.

I think the strikes are a waste of time if the money from the pensions isn't there, they could strike from now till the end of time and it won't come back.

IIUC, the money is there. There are a few local authorities who took a payment holiday and now find themselves facing a deficit.

Well i've just done a google search and it looks like a regional rolling out strike for dates between 25 and 27th followed by a possible 2 day strike in May. Didn't give date but assumming my Dad is right. Sons school that shut last time would then be

Thurs 27 April - shut (strike)
    Fri 28 April open
    WEEKEND
Mon 1st May shut (bank holiday)
    Tues 2nd May open
    Wed 3rd may shut (strike)
Thurs 4th may shut (strike or even election)
    Fri 5th may open

If this does happen this way I shall be remarkable glad my youngest isn't yet at school and that eldest isn't in a SATS year and that I don't currently work.
