Using that logic it should be ok to take you child on holiday at any time of year (when it affordable) as long as you give notice ....

Although the school that I work in was open on the last strike day, the children were not allowed to stay in school at lunchtime. This was due to the fact that none of the support staff/lunchtime supervisors were in because they were on strike. Our head said that next time he would think about closing the school. We will see

    Hi ,

Ours was exactly the same as yours. Not much disruption really, I just feel sorry for the parents who go out to work, how do they work round lunchtimes ?

Keep up the good work with your diet, look like you are doing well.

  • The school that I work in was not affected in any noticable way. A couple of caretakers went on strike, so the head and deputies unlocked the school but the evening caretaker didn't strike so they didn't even have to lock up. 3 ICT technicians went on strike - so the network manager covered their job.

What really bothered me though was that people in the area I work didn't know the strike was on so they still put their rubbish out for collection as normal. It wasn't collected so most of them just left it at the kerbside, 2 days later many bags had been split, rubbish was scattered around etc. Is it just me who thinks they should have taken it back in? I know I would have.

In our area we werent sure whether the refuse collectors were on strike or not - all we knew was what was on television that some workers were striking. We put our bins out as normal and they werent collected so we assumed it would be like a Bank Holiday and collected the next day - only we discovered that it wasnt when we found the bins still full at the end of the day! We rang the council the next day who then informed us we would have to wait another fortnight before the rubbish was collected (they later relented on this) and we then brought our bins back in.

My year 6 class, who don't get picked up by their parents anyway and who all seem to have a front door key (I couldn't even use the phone without asking!), went to the local KFC, which is next to the school. They all returned as hyper as coca-cola and chips can make any one child!

I'd be asking your councillors why you have a fortnightly collection

Just to let you all know that there is also a possibility of a two day strike on the 3rd and 4th of May. Not definate but my friend recieved a letter from school saying this could be happening.

Just wanted to warn you all in advance.
