Car Insurance how long held licence question

MY step son has just passed his driving test. When applying for insurance the question how long have you held your licence is this the 3 years he has had his provisional licence or is it the 0 days he has had his full one (although I guess until he sends the forms off does he actually hold a full one?)
I think....

usually they want the length of time a full licence has been held. The website will clarify what they mean by questions that need their meanings expanded.

Note they mean how long since the issue of a full licence (not the date the test was passed)

Whenever I have phoned for quotes they ask how long have I held a full license for, so I would assume they mean full unless it specifically says otherwise.

Don't put 1 year if you haven't held the licence one year.

0 years covers the period from 0 to 1 year.

not great news then  i failed my test in november but i still started my insurance policy then as provisional licence holder, then passed begining of january and change to full licence so if i put 0 years it will look as if i have no road experience  whereas i really have 11months... damn!!!!
    please just thank me:p

You'll probably be paying less for simply having a full license as opposed to provisional, i would have thought?
Sometimes they ask if you have any driving experience, pretty sure it's asked on confused.com.

Invariably having a full licence (after just passing your test) means insurance is more expensive than it was when you were a learner!

A lot of websites are now built so that if you put full licence for less than 1yr, they will then ask if you have Pass Plus which can lead to a discount.

If you put 1 yr then the question will sometimes not appear.

Not all websites do this, but most of the newer ones do.

Before this question they will ask the type of licence you hold, they then ask how long you have held that particular licence for.

im looking at getting direct line as i will earn no claims discount (if i dont have an accident) if im a named driver so i can save money compared to me being policyholder.. and their options for length of licence is 0years, 1years, 2years and 3or more and when it comes to renewal ill have my licence for 11 months!!
    please just thank me:p
