"Expected" Broadband Speed Advice.

Hello,

I would like some advice and I am hoping someone more technically minded than myself can help.

I have been on Madasafish broadband since July 2008, when my broadband first connected BT's ADSL checker and Sam Knows said I should get 2Mbps or more (actual was around 1.8Mbps), after about 6 months this increased to 3Mbps or more on the same checkers (actual around 3.2Mbps), I did another check about 2 weeks ago and the sites said I should get 4.5Mbps or greater (actual about 3.5Mbps) so I thought great my speeds should get faster, now I just renewed with Madasafish on a save deal for the next 12 months and noticed over last couple of days my internet was going really slow so I did another check, my expected broadband speed has DROPPED to 2.5Mbps or great and my actual is 2.7Mbps, is there a reason why this would have happened when up until I renewed my contract I was getting over 3Mbps.

Now I will advise that I used to a have DLINK router, this was faulty so I am now using a Thompson 585v7 and I have always been wireless. I only have phone and broadband connected (no Sky or anthing else connected to phoneline) so I don't know what else to factor in.

Find out how to extract your router statistics and post them, folks will then have a better idea as to what can be done.

BTW Wireless can adversely affect your BB performance, when doing speed tests its best to be wired, and also connect your router to your master test socket, under the faceplate.

    From Kitz:-

Log in to the router from http://192.168.1.254
