Switching from pay monthly to payg?

I have a Vodafone pay monthly contract which I started at least five years ago. I have never renewed the contract,but obviously as I have never cancelled it, it has continued. Is the contract being continued in 18 month blocks or is it a rolling contract?
Secondly, is it possible to switch this contract to PAYG without buying a new phone and incurring any extra charges?

After the first 18 months it just becomes a rolling 30 day contract.

You can switch to a payg one the same network by calling them and they'll send you a payg sim which they'll then move your number too. Or to another network by asking your current network for a pac code, give that to the new network and they'll move it to one of their payg sims.

You have no need to buy a new phone and all networks have free payg sims on line if you look for them.
