Dont let your first attempt put you off as thats the one that takes the longest.

Once you have done a few shops, the sites remember what you have bought before and they come up in your favourites which makes for quick and easy shopping!!

This happens with Tesco anyway , Ive never used any of the others.

Just done my Tesco shop and a bit miffed as I usually find a code on here to bring the price down a little.

Nevermind.......I really dont have time (or the inclination) lol to go and do it in person so the £4 delivery charge is worth it.
    Make £10 a Day Feb .....£75.... March... £65......April...£90.....May £20.....June £35.......July £60

I only really discovered online shopping a few months ago when we moved about a 40 minute drive away from any supermarket and really couldnt justify the travelling time. 1 hour each way plus at least another hour shopping.

OMG - i am so stupid for not using it earlier.

We used to spend £120+ a week in asda (yes we filled the trolley full of rubbish and fell for the kids nagging and please can i have one of these'') and that didnt even include nappies for DD. Loads of food got thrown away each week as we were suckers for special offers and impulse buys.

Now i meal plan and we rarely spend over £60 and that includes nappies and baby wipes. Plus another £10 for local shops for bread milk etc during the week.

We nipped to the co-op (only shop we have anywhere near) today to get a few things to get us through till saturday as we are going away for a week and i nearly died when she said £48.56 please. We barely had 2 carrier bags full and i so wish i had pulled my finger out last night and done it online.

The good thing about online shopping is i can meal plan what we like to eat and build a list around that - i can pop into the kitchen to check if i have something in already - where as i would just buy another instore to later find out i already had 1. I send DF running round the house shouting - do we need more bog roll etc etc.

The only thing i stock up on occasionally is tinned food like beans, tomatoes, sweetcorn etc etc plus i dont have to lug it all home myself either.

I put all my items in my basket then i go to the special offer section. I always need cheese so i look at specials on cheese sometimes i have added a 400g block for £3.50 but there is usually an offer on another cheese that a 200g block is on offer for £1 so it is better value to get 2 x 200g.

One thing i have noticed that i NO longer buy when shopping online is cream cakes, donuts & cakes. I dont know why but i tend to bake cakes witht he kids now with the time we have saved travelling. So much more fun.

My delivers always arrive around the last 5 minutes of my 2 hour slot.

Also, if you have space in your fridge, cravendale filtered milk lasts for so much longer than normal milk - over a week if unopened is my experience. You can certainly buy some of that online. Of course I impulse buy at the corner shop :o so longlife bread, UHT milk, cravendale filtered milk save quite some money for me :o:o

My deliveries have come five minutes early, twenty minutes late (free £10 voucher from Mr S) and all in between, but I like the local Sainsbury as the drivers are friendly. The local Tesco are drastically poor. I haven't tried Asda as I am very happy with Sainsbury.

It may be worth trying different stores (depending on prices) to see if any of your local stores are particularly appalling or brilliant.

Once you have found your way round it is so easy to do - but you must allow time to sit down and really pare the list down to get the best effect :o This is the voice of experience - I can even impulse buy online, it is just harder. :o:o:o

i did a Sainsbury's on-line shop yesterday for the first time since I joined this board. I usually do a bulk shop near the start of the school hols....but this time I got everything on my list for about £40 less than I would instore!

No impulse buys this time...and several 'basics' items included. Suspect this shop will last longer too!

Sturgeon - thank you! I need to get a nectar card, I would have so many points now if I had just been organised :o

Cyclingyorkie - next time you can look at your favourites or start off from previous basket and it gives you a head start. Also you get accustomed to things, so it gets so much less daunting.

Also, if you use mysupermarket.co.uk then you can get ipoints and are pointed in the direction of bargains.

I always book my delivery the week before and I can dither all week adding things in and taking things out. :o Mr S allows you to change your delivery right up until the day before and in the distant past Mr T also allowed this, though I am not sure how it works now.

My youngest DD does her shopping online and swears she save cash by doing so.She says her bills have dropped by around 30 pounds a week. She has 7 to feed in her family ,sometimes 8 when I go to dinner on Sundays.Plus she says she doesn't impulse buy anymore and finds she can stick to her weekly menus better.it wouldn't be any saving for me as I live alone and don't buy an awful lot from supermarkets and I quite like having a chat to the lasses in the shop at times. But for families it's quite a good idea, plus of course it means less cars on the road as one lorry does several deliverys

it depends how much of an impulse buyer you are I suppose, doesn't it. I'm awful - always finding delicious things I want to try, and have very little willpower, so I save money by internet shopping from a fierce list - even if I do it from ocado (Waitrose) which I do - it saves me a LOT of money compared with if I go round Morrisons, Asda or tesco in person !!
  • I only discovered this week that sainsburys give a £10 voucher if they are late. Cos they are never late
I am gonna try to be sneaky in future and get my del in rush hour and just hope they are late :rotfl:
