Hi people,
I was just wondering how many of us actually find it cheaper to shop online for groceries at asda/tesco/somerfield etc. With me i end up spending an enormous amount of money when i go to do a weekly shop in asda because i pop into george, if somethings on offer for e.g ribena was on offer last week i bought 8 bottles ive got 6 bottles of ketchup in my kitchen and theres only me and dd who eat at home. We also get a takeaway 2/3 times a week. I was thinking if maybe i started shopping online i would only buy what i need?????
Do u think it works out cheaper to do shopping online?
ANd what pros/cons have you experienced?
Tia for any replies

it does work out cheaper if you meal plan and use a list, the only downside for me is i tend to book a slot a week in advance then all the offers i've picked have changed so i end up spending hours online changing my basket.
it also takes me ages to find what i'm after, its great if you know exactly what you want but for me all the time it takes ends up not being worth it.
plus some times the store is out of stock of some thing i really need so i end up going out any way!!0 -
but i think id tend to make a list and buy whatever need anyway silly me but i dont wait for offers because then i end up buying things i dont need, so for eg if i need crisps and theyre on offer i'll buy them but if i dont need them and theyre on offer i'll end up buying them anyway. IYSWIM

I always set a budget, then chuck everything I need in the basket, of course the total ends up being 3 times my budget.
I then filter out the treats and non essentials, by then I am normally over budget by about £10-£15
Then I downshift brands and I am then below budget and some treats can go back on
This does take some time (but still half the time of a supermarket trip) but is worth it cos if I go to the store I spend loads more than my budget on offers that I dont need0 -
I have found shopping online really useful, because I use mysupermarket.com which does direct me to the offers and also I can virtually 'put things back on the shelf' so that I reach a total. It is a lot easier to look at a list than in a trolley and say 'do I really need that?'
I've got really used to it now, so zip around quite happily.
It has certainly cut down my shopping bills. However you miss out on the yellow sticker items. Also the temptation to stock up on offers is incredibly strong.

yes rottweiler and wannabe sybil u are very right thats what exactly what i need to do i feel so embarassed to say but a 2 week shop to asds for me and dd costs around £100+ its ridiculous because i fill my trolley up with stuff i really dont need,,,my mother used to say i was doing the sweep!0

Also can you pay using vouchers/coupons etc for e.g how would i be able to use my healthy start vouchers if im shopping online?
Sorry i must sound so so silly!
TIA for replies0 -
I have just checked - there is no space on the Sainsbury checkout to put in coupons or healthy start.
The only things I can think of are either doing the list on line, take it with you to the supermarket and stick to it. I would have trouble with this because I am a hoarder and I would be bound to fall for a 'bargain' too good to miss. Or work out whether the money you could save doing a weekly shop on line is more than the money you would get from the vouchers or coupons.
Good luck.Ankh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0 -
thankd for the advice hun im deffo gna try this online supermaket sweep when my next shop is due, mind you can nip down to boots for the bubbas milk...x x x0

I find online cheaper, but more time consuming.....with my list I could probably get what I want instore in about 20 min. Online usually takes me more than half an hour, but that's probably because I check the list against what's on special first, then what I can't get there I have to go through the 'regular' aisles.0

I always feel i do a better shop online as not so much junk gets picked up,easier to find offers, dont forget to look at discounts/vouchers for codes to make it cheaper.:D only thing is expect the delivery quite a bit early than you book!:eek:0
