Daily Old Style for Wednesday 8th July 2009

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Wednesday 8th July! This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly, but if not, it's not a problem.

Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good!

    Morning everyone.

Hilstep - official congrats on being a granny! Hope your DD has a smooth pregnancy.

Off to the dentist this morning (before my maternity certificate runs out ;) ). TakingDS with me so he can get used to going to. My mum will also come and mind DD for me so a real family affair! We have to drive a fair distance (only way I can get an NHS dentist grrrr) but it's worth it. I actually think my entire family visit this dentist!
DD has her jabs this afternoon. NOT looking forward to that. DS never cried as he's made of really tough stuff but she's such a nesh carrot she bawls at the slightest thing. Get her weighed and see HV too so inbetween all that I have to pop DS back to pre school briefly and carry on with the house clean.

Dull and grey here. My leaking water butt isn't fixed so when it's empty (if it ever stops raining here long enough) I will try Covgirls suggestion of silcone seal both sides.

Cooked my first home grown head of broccoli for the kids last night and it tasted lovely :D We are having the rest tonight for tea, sausage and broccoli pasta bake :)

Well early start to get up and ready to for the dentist so had better get a move on.
Have a good day everyone OS or not.

Morning Hilstep and Bitsy and all who follow

Didnt get chance to post yesterday due to being busy with ES's leavers play.YD is still of school it turns out she has tonsilitis, hopefully she is going back today, she's at that bored but still slightly poorly stage so not sure whether I should send her.Doc gave her AB's so I'll need to visit the school at lunchtime to give her some.

The rain here was torrential last night and the garden is flooded.Any hopes I had of having a potter and planting up my new raised bed are well and truly gone:mad:.If it stays nice though I might get an hour on the decking with a book.

Its OH's last day at work before his 13day break:Tso housework will be taking a back seat for a while:D.

On a domestic front I have the bedrooms to dust and my bed to strip and change. The downstairs windows are on my cleaning rota but not sure whether they actually need doing so might give them a miss.Yoghurt maker is on and ready for the contents to be drained.I made bread yesterday so no need today.I defrosted some pork chops so they can be for tea with mash, veg and gravy. The kids are on a school lunch today so a rare luxury for me of no lunches to make:j

Hilstep- congratulations on your grandchild to be.My Eldest is 25 and I dread the call when she informs me of an impending grandchild as I have a four year old son and dont somehow feel old enough to be a granny yet:rotfl:

Bitsy good luck at the Dentist

PP-Hope everything is good with you

    Morning All

    Congratulations Hilstep

Feeling really tired this morning, did sleep all night but obviously not well. Jumping in the shower in a min hopefully that will wake me up.

Had a productive day yesterday but didnt get the ironing done as we watched the MJ memorial - very sad.

Today is more horrible filing jobs but am out for lunch so that will break it up. Will def do the ironing tonight. Was meant to be salad for dinner but the weather is a bit dull and overcast so dont fancy that now - will have a look in the freezer later.

Not too much os today though stardrops will come out at some point. Also at the moment am using bar-keepers friend on my oven glass doors. Am ashamed to say I let then get quite dirty so am cleaning them a little each day.

Off not to finish tea and wake up DD - have a great day.x

    Good morning everyone.

I'd love to know what a nesh carrot is, too!

Hilstep - many congratulations on the great news. You'll love being a grandmother - I do!

Well, I hear some of you had torrential rain yesterday; I hope it's cleared up and that you have a good few weeks of sunshine now. It was a bit cool and cloudy here yesterday and started off the same way this morning, but it is brightening up as I type so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I've just put bird food and bread out for the birds; there's a stray cat here who likes the bread. He's obviously starving and I don't have to heart to shoo him away. As it turns out, the birds are used to him because he doesn't try and catch them, so they just wait on a nearby hedge until he's had his breakfast. This time, however, he scoffed all the bread, so I had to give them some more!

Dinner tonight is mince with onions and mushrooms in gravy, new potatoes and courgettes, followed by the rest of the fruit salad we had yesterday, with some creme fraiche or ice cream.

All my chores are done and dinner is prepped, so I'd better get on with some work.

Hope everyone has a great day.

I got it from Lakeland but have seen it elsewhere, its a pot of powder you out on a damp cloth & then clean - its very good on glass - hence the name - also bought my sink up spotless and is doing very well on the oven doors - it removes tea/coffee stains from cups and has loads more uses. This is the first time Ihave bought it and am very impressed. So wish we had a lakeland shop near here.

    good morning all :hello:

Well, sore throat has eased, just sniffing and sneezing now! DD2 also has the bug and is a bit fed up because she has an audition this afternoon and knows she won't be feeling her best.
Anyway, managed to do quite a bit of clearing out yesterday. OH's part of the study is now also tidy and I managed to re-organize the kitchen. The pile of stuff for car-booting is growing nicely :D.
Today's plans - tidy the understairs cupboard, do some grocery shopping, some weeding, take DD2 to audition and then find somewhere nice for dinner tonight (not OS but we are on holiday :p)

Hilstep - congratulations :j, granny, grandma or nanna?
Bitsey - good luck at the dentist & with DD's jabs.

Hope your day goes well, everyone, will catch up later.
