Hiya
My friend has a contract with Orange and this is due to end in June.
He wants to take out a new contract with O2 and keep the same number. He needs his PUK code so that the number can be transferred but Orange are saying he has to pay £20 for this.
Is this right? Can he get hold of the PUK without handing over the money?
Any thoughts/ ideas?

Ever wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.

No, he needs a PAC number to transfer his phone number to another network. If the contract expires in June, then he has upto 2 months more to pay? At whatever his current line rental is - I imagine the £20 will cover the outstanding line rental?0

Sorry yes, I meant PAC. Having a wonky 5 mins!
He has downgraded his tariff to the cheapest and Orange say they will add the £20 on to his next bill.Ever wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.0 -
So he has 2 months left to pay plus the £20 unless anyone can suggest a way round this...Ever wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.0

But its only april, so its only been 10 months ...
PAC codes only last for 30 days, so by the time you've used it, Orange will have lost out on one months line rental, hence the charge.0 -
So if he writes next month, giving a month's notice and asking for the PAC code, that should work without him having to pay the £20 - yeah?
